Hi folks: I'm just starting BA and was looking at those armed, armored SAS jeeps. Neat items, but I'm not quite clear on the rules for them, or really, any armed jeep. As I understand it, jeeps are transport options. Add weapons, and they lose transport capacity. Do they stop then being transports and thus no longer subject to the auto-kill rules? Who crews them at that point? Where are the armored/heavily armed jeep rules found? British codex? American codex? (Sorry, yes, I am a former 40ker

Recommend you check the Warlord forums and their FAQ. This issue (for example, a tactic at one point was putting a medic in a vehicle and letting it drive around zapping stuff) was one of a few that was hotly debated as I recall. I don't remember the ruling. warlordgames.com/forum |

I can see why that would be hotly debated. It does seem a bit weird there's no way to simply buy crew for a transport vehicle ( one actually used as transpo for infantry) and let them stick around and operate the weaponry. It also seems to make armed ( and armored jeeps) recce vehicles that can't actually recon much, but I'm new to all of this

We treat each recce jeep as a unit with 4 or 5 crew who can and generally do dismount to fight, there again we don't bother with points and such like, we just use historical units, which frankly leads to better game. We are trying out having a dice throw at the start of the game to see how many guys each full-strength section is missing before the engagement starts- we've found that the difference between two average dice gives a reasonable spread of possibilities since infantry platoons are rarely at full strength. |

Komradebob: apart from privateers salient advice (the forums worth checking out) as far as I'm aware if the jeep is purchased as a transport it will still suffer from the transports enemy proximity rules. Only one of the issues that need alittle houseruling or fudging in an otherwise enjoyable game. |

There are no rules that specifically cover armored jeeps for Americans. They are not in the rules book or in the US book. So no option to purchase them. I have seen some house rules that let's you take them in the armored car slot and gives them a 7+ rating on the front arc only, while the other arcs are treated as soft skin as per the rules so a 6+. Plus the reece rule in place of the transport rules, for an extra 15 points. 5 for the armor and 10 for the Reece. |

I found them in the British Armored car section, where the SAS ( Behind enemy lines list) is the only one that gets them. No rules for the armored variety, but you can take up to three as a single Armored Car choice. Lovely stuff, but apparently still have some odd interactions with the endangered transport rules
