I'm looking for a good source to buy some MTB's, E-Boats, and other vessels to fight some battles in the English Channel. Preferably in the UK, but the US too would be appreciated. |

The Last Square is in the US but has the most extensive range of 1/1250 I know of. link Magister Militum magistermilitum.com in the UK carries at least part of the line. In the US the are sold as "Figurehead" and in the UK as "Hallmark" though I believe they are the same models. |

I prefer 1/600 scale myself for this. In 1/600 you have PT Dockyard, pretty good stuff and reasonable: ptdockyard.com And you can get a range of 1/600 waterline model kits as well. |

The figurehead/hallmark at 1/1250 are great. It conveys a bleak sense of empty space and isolation on your convoy. Add in 1/600 fighters for full effect. |

First and foremost thanks to everyone who responded. All messages were very helpful and I appreciate the time you all took to reply. Thanks Allen57, I have to admit I forgot about Magister Militum, that's down to old age! I will have a wee look at their site, but first I'll have a chat with bannerman. I thought about PT Dockyard's 1/600 scale stuff before SBminisguy, but the space is the problem, I get it tight enough with 1/1200 scale at times. I do agree though, PT Dockyard does make some really nice models, and I often intend to buy some of their 1/1200 scale ships. Scale Creep doesn't seem to have anything in this scale listed now Mikey
:o( That sounds like a bit of an idea autos de fe, mixing 1/600 aircraft with 1/1200 ships. I'll have to have a look at that one! @ bannerman: I'm very interested inn your collection. Are we allowed to exchange email addresses on this site, or is it dawg houseable? Whereabouts are you in Ireland? |

link Try there – has some coastal stuff in his range. |
Extra Crispy | 19 Mar 2014 9:14 p.m. PST |
To Clarify: ScaleCreep.com has never carried the coastal ranges, only the 1:6000 for WW1 and WW2 |

Clydeside does (or did) a lot of useful coastal forces craft and other very useful small warships and merchants. And the European 1/1250 manufacturers do too. Contact Dave Willcocks at Dreadnought Models or Stuart Barnes Watson at The Anchorage. They should be able to help you. Dave is based in Gosport, Stuart in Ilfracombe |

Using 1/600 aircraft works pretty well. I have both 1/1200 and 1/600 and much prefer using the 1/600. Doing this provides a forced perspective which makes it look like the planes are much higher above the ships. Some feel this puts the emphasis on the planes rather than the ships. I can see their point. When I am using planes I am usually focused on air combat rather than surface combat. Planes move so much more quickly than ships that in an air combat game the ships hardly move on the table. |

@ bannerman: I don't think we can send PM's as we aren't supporting members. I've contacted Bill and asked him to forward my email address to you. Failing that, maybe he'll clarify if posting our email addresses is against the rules. Thanks for the advice David. I actually buy models from both Dave and Stuart, but the models they sell tend to be high quality Neptune type models. They would look amazing on a wargames table, but might be a bit too vulnerable to clumsy fingers and rough handling. What do you think? I know you are much more knowledgeable than me in this. I forgot about those models SqueakyPete, and nobody could fault the prices! Again thanks to all of you for your opinions and advice. |

Another line to look for are the old Oceanic coastals. They had a lot of odd RN boats and can be found at some 1/1250 dealers. Look here. Http://1250scale.com. As someone who games his old 1/1200 Alnavco battleships, I appreciate the space issue. I have a short list of some Clydesides that the SanDiego Ship Guy has.
