It's a terrain expansion for Heroscape, but will non-Heroscape gamers be attracted by the trees?

I`ve finally got the forces on table for this; in 1/72nd and on a 8x4ft table – but only just, actually i could probably do with another 4 ft!

This is to be a demonstration game for the local club, but anyhow, this will have to do to test some rules and ranges and stuff!

The photo shows the Persians on the right and the Egyptians on the left…

OOh – need more pics please. Blog maybe?

I could post some close-ups later perhaps.

Confession: there are some metal figures amongst the Persian army!

A few more photos…

Persian Immortals and Javelin Skirmishers:

Egyptian Guard/Regulars: mostly Zvezda with some Ceasar Miniatures, with Libyan Javelin skirmishers to the front.

Showing the right wing of the Egyptian Guard/Regulars with Cavalry and Numidian Light Horse left of picture. In the background, of course, Atlantic Egyptian chariots.
The Egyptian cavalry are my own conversions using Numdian horses and legs with various Zvezda and Ceasar infantry bodies.

Looks good. What rules are you using?

MichaelCollinsHimself21 Mar 2014 3:06 a.m. PST

We`re just about to play this morning and we`re using DBA rules with special rules for formed infantry commands to keep them together in "C2" terms and in morale terms which hold a body of formed troop together – the end result is that you don`t end up battlelines becoming a series of disjointed and isolated 1to1 combats.

Some pictures of the battle now…

After infantry skirmishing all along the lines of battle, The Immortals and Sparabara were ordered to advance and assault the Egyptian centre and left (the Levy, the and Guard respectively).

The photo shows some elements of the Egyptian guard and levy with white markers in a "shaken" condition (this replaces the destroyed outcome and after a breakpoint is achieved, the command must test its morale).
The blue markers are disordered elements – and disordered elements are those that have had a "recoil" or "push-back" result against them.

In this way, with the elements remaining stationary, the battlelines are still there even after the fighting has lasted for 4-5 turns.

The Persian cavalry in the foreground is poised to charge the Egyptians…

Close up of the Persian Immortals in combat with the Egyptian Guard; Three of the Egyptian elements are "shaken", which is their "breakpoint" to test morale.

The Guard passed its morale test, rolling a "2" which is under its combat/moarle value of "4".

picture

The Egyptian Levy is attacked by Sparabara, having suffered from skirmishing from Persian javelinmen.

It had already been forced to check morale in the previous turn but in the last turn played had a further two elements shaken and it`s line broken when one element routed (note the yellow "broken" marker and the red "routing" one.

Luckily, I needed a score of "1" and I rolled a "1", passing the morale test, but it seems that the next turn will produce a break-through for the Persians.

Game Over !

Here`s a photo…

picture

We left off the other day with the Egyptians feeling a little shaky and about to collapse under the pressure…

Sure enough, the Levies broke first and the Guard followed in the next turn!

The cavalry attack by the Persians also broke the Egyptian cavalry, as the light cavalry skirmished without decision on the extreme right wing.

With the Egyptian centre and right broken the game was declared a Perisan victory.
The Persian losses were light – with two Sparabara elements shaken and 7 skirmisher bases destroyed.

If played out, a pursuit by the victorious Persian cavalry would have destroyed most of Psamtik`s regulars and levies!

Deducting for cakes, tea, coffee, and pizza and making decisons on some rules that required modification, and some new ones too, the playing time was about 4 hours.
