I painted up some HaT Industries 1/32 plastic figures for use as French in Mexico for skirmish wargaming the Maximillian Adventure.

The HaT figures are nice, but slightly smaller and less well-detailed than Armies in Plastic zouaves.

I'll put up some photos later of the AiP zouaves I'm painting as Tirailleurs Algeriens.

I've been toying (no pun intended) with this period in 54mm. What do you plan to use for Republic Mexicans.

79thPA -- I have some Timpo 54mm Confederate infantry in broad-brimmed hats that I plan to paint as Mexican Republicans.

They're not perfect, but with the Osprey volume as inspiration, I think they'll pass muster.

Unfortunately there is not much out there; some ACW figs and maybe some Alamo Mexicans to get a shako. I have quite a few Mexican peasants that I picked up somewhere that I am going to use as well.

I used some TSSD Union Infantry for the Republicans. Their kepis look like they have piping like the Mexicans (and French) wore. I painted most of them in all white with a few in blue coats. Remember, after the ACW ended the US supplied the Republicans with surplus uniforms and arms so you could even give them the whole Union uniform. With black hair and beards and with tan skin they look pretty good. I'll try and post some photos.

Nick Stern -- thank you for the recommendation on TSSD figures.

I have some of their WWII Japanese and Russians soldiers -- really great figures. I'll have to get some of their ACW Union infantry and paint them as Mexican Republican troops.
