That's a lot of roof to cut. Probably all push mowing too.

EHeise17 Mar 2014 4:02 p.m. PST

I like the castle complete with moat behind them.

Many of the "green" roofing setups have plants which do not require mowing---fyi

Hobbit town with a castle just across the street--and a photo with a tourbus--tourist area or real housing?!?!?

Very energy efficient

I wonder if the structures have a shorter lifespan than an average above ground home. And if they have a mold issue.

Yea, I'd worry about mold and water leak issues, though being underground is very energy efficient.

Probably reduces energy needs for heating and cooling by about 80%, or so.

Any house can get mold or water leaks. Just need to do a proper job of water proofing like you would a foundation I imagine.

It looks like The Shire as renvisioned by Gaudi.

Over the hills and far away …

Mehoy Nehoy18 Mar 2014 4:39 a.m. PST

Random, it's real housing. There are various 'eco-housing' projects like this scattered across Switzerland. If that's a tour bus it's probably just passing through.

I just picture young kids riding their bikes over the roofs playing X-games.
