Valiant have added a range of metal 1/72 US Airborne figures to complement their plastic figures.

Cool! Look super nice after basing is done.

Mark RedLinePS16 Mar 2014 1:49 p.m. PST

Nice, but I really don't know where Valiant are going with their metal figures. The whole reason Valiant took off was because they produced cheap packs of plastic figures and the reason they faltered was because the range was too small. These should be plastic, no??

Blacky75016 Mar 2014 2:14 p.m. PST

aren't they just the Raventhorpe figures?

Jabo 194416 Mar 2014 3:40 p.m. PST

I can't get too enthused about Valiant figures, there neither one scale or another. Definitely not 20mm figures & they're not 28mm either.
Pity really, they don't look like bad figures, but I won't be buying them.

They are true 25mm, and I think the range is wide enough to support full forces. I do agree though that ALL their figures should be plastic and cheap

No good for me but good luck to them. In 1/72 they would have beaten PSC to the punch.

What tanks etc does one use with true 25mm size (I like the sound of that – wonder what scale "true 25mm" is)?

Beaumap17 Mar 2014 10:40 a.m. PST

Nice figures in isolation, but neither the advantages of plastic nor of size compatibility.

Is the 25mm thing Valiant's own most recent rationalization of the latter, or just someone trying to make sense of it all?

6ft=72inches so 1/72= 1inch = 6ft or true 25mm scale simples

I think these are great as I only use Valiant for my WW2 so these are perfect. You can now pretty much represent everything for late war NW Europe (apart from winter clothing)so these are a great call

Valiant are labelled 1/72 or true 25mm where as 20mm is closer to 1/76.

Don't like the fact that they are metal because it also goes against their original plan of making poses customizable with separate arms/legs/heads.
They were always too big for me, but because it was fun to mess around with conversions, I bought several sets of each.

My order just arrived in the post – lovely figures.

Armourfast tanks are a perfect match as are Italeri, Trumpeter, Forces of Valor 1:72 plastic model kits……..!

Beaumap15 Aug 2014 11:56 a.m. PST

They are not the same 1/72 as the other 1/72 firms! (AB, Fantassin, CP, Elheim, TDQ, Empress, etc). They are even bigger than the big Italeri. Hence they do NOT truly match any of the above except the FoV Tigers and PSC Panzer IVs, which are noticeably oversize. I have noticed at show display tables that some people use 28mm vehicles with them. So I have to conclude that some think they are too big for 1/72 vehicles and some think they work.

I am definetly in the pro Valient miniatures camp, the yank airborne are a great addition to their range, all my ww2 miniatures are valiant and they look great against my 1/72 scale armour, yes its a shame they didnt come in plastic, but i am definetly not going to miss this release like i did the brit paras, one can hope that they release them in plastic in a few years.

on the matter of scale i just look at them as 25's once thats in your head everything is perfect.

Valiant are labelled 1/72 or true 25mm

Here we go again: labeling the box as 1/72 does not make the product inside 1/72 scale despite how many times you repeat the myth. It didn't work for Airfix years ago and it doesn't work any better now. We've been around this subject so many times people are getting dizzy and losing their lunch.

1/72 in not and never will be "true 25mm" period! TMP link

It's also not about the height but the general bulk of these figures: Armourfast and other plastic kits work well if you can kid yourself into believing eight 6ft tall 280lb men can fit in the back of a Hanomag….or three such men could squeeze into a panzer turret and still breathe.

I guess it all depends on the effect you're looking for: this

Lol, I agree, when they first advertised their line I was so excited, then I saw the size of the figs, big disappointment, as they look nice, I even toyed with the idea of giving them head swaps with smaller 1/72nd scale figs, as their heads are just so big, but PSC can now fill the hard plastic gap if needed.

deephorse10 Apr 2015 3:36 a.m. PST

I so looked forward to Valiant figures when they were first announced. But I was so disappointed when I finally got my hands on one courtesy of a free sample on a magazine. It was so much bigger than figures in the rest of my collection. Consequently they were no good for me from the very start.

A final nail in their coffin was a photo possibly posted here on TMP. It was a lovely collection of German vehicles and Valiant figures. One figure was sat in the driving seat of a SdKfz 7 (or was it a 9?). Instead of looking through the windscreen the figure was looking over it. It just looked ridiculous.

Howling Mad Murdoch21 Oct 2015 2:23 p.m. PST

Get over it.

If you like the figures (like me) buy some, if not shop somewhere else. Plenty of choice out there!
