I'm going to attempt to repaint/decal a WoW model as this candy striped DR1 but can't find an image of the underside.

Do you think the plane was striped or was it in fact one long spiral that wrapped around the plane?

Looking at the angle of the stripes, they must be just that – they're definitely too steeply angled to be a single band wrapping all the way around – that would need to be only a few degrees off of the vertical for a single band to work.

Thanks – that makes the task one huge step less tricky.

Can't see it – take the photograph of it in the flight line, and join up where each stripe disappears at the top, with where the next one starts at the bottom. The lines you get joining them together are at roughly the same angle as the visible stripes, maybe a little steeper.

So either (a) it's a series of separate stripes, or (b) if it is a spiral, that spiral goes diagonally up one side, diagonally across the top, diagonally down the other side, and then, for some reason, goes straight across the bottom, not at a diagonal, but perpendicular to the sides….

(Also note that the artwork Ron posted to support his "looks like it's spiralled" is for a decal set that doesn't depict it as spiralled, but as separate stripes, which don't pass underneath the plane. You can see the decals on this shot – one for each side, one for the top, nothing for underneath.)

Thanks all for contributions. It's was a view of that decal sheet that I wanted to see on the assumption that it had been throughly researched. I'm happy to go with the notion of it being on top, and both sides unless a photograph or eye witness account ever proves otherwise.

This will be a WoW model so the underside won't really get seen that easily unless I invest in gimbal mounts one day.

The angle of the stripes looks like it would work if there were *two* stripes spiral-wound.
