Awesome Mr Brand, thanks for posting! Things get better and better…

John the OFM12 Mar 2014 9:18 a.m. PST

If I were a true rabid Flames of War fan boy, I would have a fit over you advertising a rival product on the FoW Board.
But, I am not.
I welcome the slap at Battlefront for delaying Barbarosa for so many years. I don't know what the holdup is. Surely it can't be the fear of selling too many tanks?

First class operation!

john lacour12 Mar 2014 3:34 p.m. PST

the game is very much like easy 8's "battleground". i very much wanted to like the game, really.

PiersBrand12 Mar 2014 3:48 p.m. PST

Well we all like different things, thats what makes the hobby vibrant.

I dont see any similarity to Battleground myself but to each their own.

pzivh43 Supporting Member of TMP12 Mar 2014 4:06 p.m. PST

I don't see much resemblance, either. Painting up my 20mm now to give BGK a go!

nazrat12 Mar 2014 4:43 p.m. PST

There is absolutely NO similarity to Battleground WW II. That used card based activation, D20s, huge complicated charts for hitting and killing both men and tanks, and was a slow, horribly written and organized set of rules. Not one of those things can be said about Battlegroup!!

Don't like the game? Fine. But please don't misrepresent the system by comparing it to something utterly unlike it.

Sparker12 Mar 2014 6:07 p.m. PST

No I don't see BattleGroup and FOW as direct competitors either. Personally BG for me is a 20mm option, but more generally BattleGroup is scaleable from Platoon to Battalion level games, whereas FOW is firmly in the Company slot.

Fine. I agree. Just don't start threads about it on the Flames of War Board. Why not do it on the Empire Board, or the WRG Ancients Board?

vagamer63 Supporting Member of TMP12 Mar 2014 6:23 p.m. PST

OFM,

I couldn't have said it more succinctly!

Battleground WWII isn't even in the same league as Battlegroup!

Sparker12 Mar 2014 11:19 p.m. PST

Why not do it on the Empire Board, or the WRG Ancients Board?

Because these aren't even remotely connected to WW2 gaming, whereas you could argue the FOW one is?

You can see on the left that the OP has simply linked to all relevant WW2 boards. Perfectly sensible.

I get irritated as much as the next player of FOW when it gets attacked, but I do think getting defensive because news about another set of WW2 miniatures rules gets included on on its board is being a tad over sensitive…

And I know I'm not the only crossover cos the guys I game Battle Group with are all also FOW players…

PiersBrand13 Mar 2014 4:02 a.m. PST

Apologies John, I shall refrain from crossposting to FOW in future, I just thought FOW players may be interested as its a period as yet not covered and they may be able to use the supplement with existing armies.

Cheers,

Piers

Great stuff Piers.

I don't think there is anything wrong in reaching out for a wider audience . Obviously we all have our favourites but sometimes its worth just having a look at other systems and I'll be surprised if your Dispatches Free E Mag was just read/downloaded by those who own a Battlgroup rules set :)

Please keep us updated with further developments.

Piers is in no way shape or form related to GW in any way.

The rules make sense for starters….
