after Seven or Eight Seasons. "There's still no word on when A Song of Fire and Ice author George R.R. Martin will release the final two novels in the series, but the HBO adaptation, Game of Thrones, has decided to set their plans regardless. In an interview with Vanity Fair, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss say they would like to wrap the TV series up after seven or eight seasons. "It doesn't just keep on going because it can," Weiss says. "I think the desire to milk more out of it is what would eventually kill it, if we gave in to that." Hit the jump for more on how Benioff, Weiss, and Martin are planning ahead. Game of Thrones returns for its fourth season on April 6th at 9pm. Although Martin has yet to write the last two books—The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring—he does have an overall plan for how the plot will wrap up, and Benioff and Weiss want to be on the same page

Good. Maybe this will push Martin into finishing the story. While I think that most people realize that writing--especially writing well--is a creative process, I also think that Mr. Martin is dragging his feet on completion of the saga. Whether this is some ploy on his part or his publisher I cannot say. In either case, Martin gets the blame just as he gets the fame. |

Martin has admitted that he does not even remember most of the characters, and he needs help keeping it all straight. I think he forgot the story, and has trouble remembering it all. |

If he had had an HBO contract from the beginning, we would not have had to put up with The War of The Iron Islands Succession and the Sand Snakes. He's not dragging his feet. He just loves to drag in endless digressions. Now that he is not just writing for his own ego, it reminds me of Dan Ackroyd in Ghostbusters. "Hey, I worked in the private sector. They demand results!" It's just like finishing the last unit of Thracian peltasts the night before the tournament! |

So why do authors write thicker books the more famous they become? It's simply a lack of editing – an author has more to say against pruning of padded prose the more famous he is. |

Editing? Can you imagine the publisher with the stones to tell Stephen King or Tom Clancy that they need to cut 200 pages? |

Editing. No one tells a famous author how to write, much to that author's loss. |

A bad editor can screw up a book as badly, if not worse. than a bad writer. My father is a fairly successful author, and he has had books destroyed by editors, and then it becomes something of a war between them. It goes back and forth between them until the dust settles. He has also had very good editors who did well for him. They are as individual--and occasionally as ego-driven--as the writers. That being said, Martin's story is so deep and so involved, the story itself could be a monster for an editor to handle. But I personally feel the story sort of got away from him a bit. I think he is also enjoying some of the success he has had of late, what with opening a restored old movie theater and going to pretty much every convention he can, hehe. He has also admitted to not being able to sit down and write, which is pretty crippling when you have a couple of 1500 page monoliths to pen. |

Can you imagine the publisher with the stones to tell Stephen King or Tom Clancy that they need to cut 200 pages? That was exactly the point I was trying to make :) |

Question to John: Kaleese married anybody? Or she became a "nun"?. My vote goes for John Snow? Amicalement Armand |

Nuns in Westeros are called "Septa", after the 7 New Gods. As far as I know, Danny does not become a Septa. I can safely say that without accusations of "SPOILERS!" As for marrying John, if the theories that his Dad is Rhaegar Targaryean and his Mom Lyanna Stark are correct, that would make Jon her nephew. However, the Targs have long practiced brother/sister marriages, so aunt/nephew should be no problem. NOT a Spoiler, BTW. Just a "theory". The story in the books are not at the point of revealing Jon's parents yet, so this is speculation. Speculation galore here: link Go to "R + L = J" |
