Nice work dude.
Good to see someone else that paints tank tracks a different colour to the main body.

GROSSMAN06 Mar 2014 8:24 a.m. PST

Damn fine work, did you paint the numbers on the turrets?

Bandolier06 Mar 2014 6:02 p.m. PST

Thanks!

Paint the numbers? I'm not that good. I used decals.

Every time I see a micros post like this I think I need to jump in on some.

Is the paint by hand or airbrush? Can you briefly share techniques and your experience in how much of an invest there is to have enough to both get started and have some fun playing?

I'd be interested in seeing your technique. I game 28s and last time I dropped a scale and tried 15, my technique just wasn't cutting it! Lord knows what would happen to me at 6mm! I think for armor games though, you can't beat 6mm. Cheap as chips and a little table makes a large tank garden!

Nice paint work. I like the radio antena on the Panthers.

thanks for the compliments!

They were painted with a regular brush by hand. First I did the recommended white glue them to a nail for holding. I primed them in gray.

First coat was the lightest color, desert yellow over the whole thing. Then I added the other colors. I used either Vajello or Model Master paints and thinned them slightly, and put it on in two coats. I think that way you get the fading edge with a solid center. Also painted the tracks in gun metal.

Then I laid on a heavy coat of "smoke" --- a very dirty looking dark brown wash.

The last touch was to lightly, very lightly drybrush over the colors again.

Finishing touches were the decals and adding antennae -- .008 gauge guitar string. Dull Cote and pull them off the nail.

The T-34s were easy: prime, green, wash, drybrush, decal, done.

I really enjoyed painting them so I'll probably get more and document it on the blog. But that probably won't happen until late summer at the earliest. Too many other things already in line.

Thanks again.
