GURPS has the real reason – nudity increases armor protection, being female and nude is an extra bonus, that may have been in the hollywood section though

Actually Goober in some other of the numerous discussions of this someone pointed out that there doesn't need to be quite that much expansion of the 'breastplate.' The tissue there is somewhat amenable to temporary reshaping. And a more streamlined shape would weigh less.

However I would be a lot more worried facing one of those ladies. Or a bit reassured as to their safety/sanity if they were on mine.
