Fought a very jolly battle of Chaeronea 86BC last night (the one with Sulla and the Pontic slave phalanx). It is one of my favourite battles, and I've fought it at least four times, most recently twice with the rules I've been developing.

Magnificent, as always! I imagine in this battle, the critical thing is how long the slave phalanx will hold before breaking. Tricky to get right, I would think.

Simon, great looking game!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What size are your pike units? Cheers Mike

Nicely done Simon.

Problem for the Pontics was never having enough phalangites for the job. Playing Hail Caesar at the moment and the poor 'ex-slaves' are severely marked down, Romans would probably crush them at the first impact!

Thanks chaps.

Hi Mike! They are usually in 48's but I like to put them in 72's when I can, because the increased depth looks better.

Hi Garry, the slaves seem to have been quite highly motivated and presumably were desperate not to lose to Romans who would happily crucify them at the drop of a helmet! I reckon you should upgrade them.

Cheers, Simon
