anyone gamed this in any scale?

was looking at future projects that might be doable. Just wondered what people used for figures and vehicles and wether it was a good period to game?

I had planned to in 15mm. Infantry was going to be a mix of Peter Pig figures with AK47s and WW2 rifles. I have an old Soldier of Fortune book that has a brief chapter on this short brutal war with several photos. The Ugandans had some WW2 era Shermans and the Tanzanians had some Type-62 light tanks. For rules, I would go with AK 47 Republic.

Nice. I was thinking of either 15mm-20mm skirmish games or a 6mm grand scale type of game.

Not sure. long way off, need to buy books and read up on it more. Just wondered if anyone else had tried it.

cheers.

I hope that's not loaded, or we have a lot of die rolls coming up.

I did this war in 1/285 scale about 10 years ago using my own rules. Lots of fun…don't forget the Libyan Brigade(T-55s and BTR-60s and BM-21 MRL and Tu-22 bombers) and the Islamic Legion volunteers. Tanzania also used the Chinese T-59A tank as well as its mini version the T-62 Lt. Tank. Books on the subject are very hard to come by. Good Luck

So much for checking if your backblast area is clear ! evil grin But that conflict might be an interesting game …

BTW check out boargamegeek- The Last King of Scotland- a boardgame about the war. The only book I ever found on the subject was War in Uganda: The legacy of Idi Amin.

Isn't that His Excellence Idiot Amin his self? Getting rid of dissenting factions in the army 8-D. Love the idea of Shermans in Africa, must be honest this brew up slipped past me history wise, Thanks and Cheers. BTW can't go wrong with AK47 (don't know how the newer version plays but the older works brilliantly for these kind of African bust ups.Cheers

I visited Tanzania in early 80s and picked up a local book about the topic, will dig it up and find the details. It's been a while since I read it but the war was a true comedy of errors. Highlights include:
- Ugandan illiterate troops can't read the labels on their ammo crates and use training shells in their mortars.
- Libyan Tu-22 bombers manage to kill a single antelope in their massive bombardment of Tanzanian troops.
- Tanzanian HQ RTOs get a little tipsy and concoct a cunning plan: they start broadcasting bogus orders in the clear: "are the SAS ready? What about the Israeli commandos? Are the gurkhas ready to attack the Ugandans tomorrow?" This causes the morale meltdown in the opposing Ugandand divisions who desert en masse.
- Tanzanian air force pilots manage to crash one of the captured MiGs in the victory parade.

Cheers,
Aksu

I've got this and was going to recommend it. Makes a good basis for a miniatures campaign.

Darth, do you have the version with the fancy colorful counters? or the old one…btw can someone please tell me how to PM people on this site, I can't figure it out, lol

Failure1628 Feb 2014 5:42 p.m. PST

Jason, you need to be a supporting member in order to PM other members…see the icon after darthfozzywig's name, for instance.

Cannot say I've heard or read a lot about this conflict, but I can see there being some good gaming potential.

After Amin pulls that trigger, everybody behind him will need a new face

Wikipedia has a good article on the war. I have thought about doing it in 3mm. Picoarmor has all that you need to do the conflict.

Edwulf01 Mar 2014 4:28 a.m. PST

Nice. My only source so far IS the Wikipedia article. I looked at the peter pig figs. A nice range that had slipped under my radar.

darthfozzywig01 Mar 2014 10:54 a.m. PST

Jason, I have the new one with the fancy colorful counters. :)
