"to remind her of why she lets me go "

That kind of sounds like you are in some sort of prison.

They don't call it 'the old ball and chain' for nothing you know.

Your a good man Warpaintjj. 1 week out of your wargaming year for a happy wife? As you say "No brainer."

Perhaps you could just take some dice with you and every now and then, when no-one is looking, just roll them, just to hear the thud and perhaps sense the excitement or dread of rolling a six.

I lucked out this year. The Huzzah! convention is May 16, 17 and 18 this year. My 35th wedding anniversary is the 19th. Too close for comfort, but I'll be there for both! Maybe I'll get some figs as a gift for wifey….

Last year my wife forgot out wedding anniversary. Until I can use the dementia excuse I think I am safe now.

Marriage is a fine institution. But, then again, so was Alcatraz, Sing Sing & Joliet…….

That was a wonderful break from real life. The Swan at Bibury was excellent, great food, great wine, great service, great room, great time had by the happy couple. Good value to if you take advantage of the "mid week break deals". Worth every penny.

Back to real life now and that includes weekly wargaming of course!

The real answer is to set things up in proper perspective. I have some former friends from wild, bad past periods. The practice is to announce some desire to see and visit with these and also tell stories about wenching, drinking and other temptations. Now that they are out of jail. But then, ah, sorry, no-can-do, I have a wargame instead. Not only will the wargame time be considered a good investment by the spouse, but you might be able to convince to him/her to prime some figures for you.

Wise words 1968billsfan.
I have a friend who used to spring news of gaming/competition weekends away on his girlfriend the day before!!! She rightly objected and he always got into deep dirt! The rest of us just announced it 8 months before, put it on the calender etc and nothing ever came of it. He hasn't played for years, not what that says though, maybe he grew up…
