Great game, right to the end!

Also very much in the spirit of the movies, a TIE swarm against a rebel patrol/assault…

An hour long vid of an X-Wing game???

I like X-Wing, and I like AARs, and I like X-Wing AARs, but I haven't got that kind of time.

Photos and text are way quicker.

Oh and I had to snort when the video started off claiming to be the "World Championship" for X-Wing. Puhleeze. It's bad enough when MLB and NFL call their US-only events "world championships," but at least they've got some credibility on the "best of the best" claims. But an X-Wing tourney‚ regardless of location or sponsor, isn't "world anything." Fun, probably, and kudos to the victor for winning, but really it's only "the guy who won among the small number of guys who happened to be here who also played in the tourney rather than doing other things."

Of course, it might have been said tongue-in-cheek. Like I said, I can't give that an hour of my time to find out.

You might want to give a few moments on Google though: link

That was a genuine World Championship. With 84 players from around the world playing. Winners of any of the Regional Tournaments in North America got a free ticket into the Championship. Winners of any of the Regional Tournaments overseas got a a free ticket, airfare, and lodging!

I had won one of the New England Regionals, but due to a personal conflict could not attend Worlds.

Still doesn't cut it. It's just the world championship of "people who decided to participate (and had the spare time/cash to do so)." So again, as I said, kudos to the winner, but the tournament hardly reflects the "best of the best." Not, by the way, that I think X-Wing, fun game though it is, qualifies as any real measure of tactical ability or innate intelligence. It's just too easy to be "good" at. Apply a little standard fighter doctrine, choose your targets wisely, outguess your opponents and have a run of good luck with the dice, and that's about it. Oh, I suppose you can get into min/maxing fleet builds, but that's always struck me as lame, like kill decks in CCGs. Real skill is tested when you have either completely equal forces or even a weaker force than the opposition.

I'm not saying that people can't be better players than others, but I don't think as a game structure it qualifies on the level of "world championship" as does, for example, chess. So in the instance, the phrase "World Championship" is really just a marketing gimmick. Fun, but not something to really take seriously.

Oh well, don't mind me. I'm just feeling a bit snarky today. grin Congrats to the winner, and I also admit that had I the time and cash to join in, I might have tried for it, too. Heck, it'd at least get me the opportunity to look an FFG guy straight in the face and say, "Thanks for the trophy. So, where the heck are those Imperial Aces sets you were promising would be here by now?" evil grin

@ Parzival: I am not an English speaker, and could not make up for most of the comments in the video, but watched the whole thing and it was not boring, but thrilling…

I wouldn't mind for the "world championship" thing. Nothing stops your gaming group from having a "Corellian World Championship" (even an Alderaan one if no B-Wings and similars are allowed)… ;-)
