Anyone put together a european army for the 1st 3rd of the 16th century using 10mm figures? I'd like to compare a few notes with someone else who has done it before I put too much money into figures. |

No, but I am currently planning an army, or armies in 15mm, so will be interested in the responses you get as well. There are a lot of manufacturers in the larger scale, but not sure about 10mm. |

I'm in the middle of doing exactly that! I want both sides for Marignano (1515, Swiss, landesknechts, French and a few Italians) and I have prevaricated between scales/ manufacturers for a long time before settling on GW Warmaster figures. I am planning on using DBx 15mm size basing with as many figures as I can cram on each base. Say what you like about the EE (tm) but warmaster figures are streets ahead of anything else I have seen in 10mm. They also have a good range of packs with plenty of poses in each pack. I am planning on using as many Empire figures as I can get my hands on. The GW-US online store has pictures of all the stands: link So far the main problem is a lack of pikes, something of a hinderence for the period; My solution is to cut/drill/rip off the hand weapons of various Empire foot soldiers and replace them with 3cm lenths of wire. Its time consumming but this is a long term plan. The 'Elite' hangunners and halberdiers seem different enough to provide some distinction between the troops (so far I'm thinking Regulars for the Swiss and Elite for the landesknects) I have started with arquebusers and xbow men - they are more dynamic that the halbardiers and will serve as front rank pikemen. The knight figures are also a bit static and limited in poses although there are a few different sets available mail order. I might use Brettonian squires for men at arms to go with the gendarmes. I am also filling down the bases as I find them a bit thick. There is an article from warmaster magazine on creating a Dogs of War warmaster army which has a few tips appropriate to their historical counterparts. PDF link Voila, S |

Illumin4tus: Do post pictures of your conversions! I am working on a couple of empire cannon and the figure quality is 1st rate; but I had planned to concetrate on Pendraken for the rank and file. The pictures at 10mmworld.com show very dynamic armoured nights with reasonably period armour, and they do have mounted crossbow and the like. |

For pikemen, those Pendraken Elizabethian 10mm pikemen are quite good looking on nature - the pictures on 10mmworld do not make them justice. Might be easier to get them than convert Warmaster figs. Griefbringer |

- For pikemen, those Pendraken Elizabethian 10mm pikemen - are quite good looking They do look well proportioned and animated but they are a bit 'late' for me. I'd end up having to do hat-swaps for the Morions (there are already a few too many morions in the WM figures) so I might as well stick with the weapon swap. The gendarmes' horses look a bit small but I might get some for variety. As for photos, they wont be coming anytime soon. everything is still in bare metal and blu-tack stage and the painting paraphenalia has been packed away while I work on a big work contract :( The photos appearing in the pdf article I mentioned above can be seen here in colour link S |

Does GW only provide 12 foot figures for $10.00, as shown in the on-line contents photos, or are there more to a pack? It is not clear, since no numbers are stated in the listings. If so, it appears that they are a bit overpriced to me, compared to other miniatures that are available. |

- Does GW only provide 12 foot figures for $10.00 Each pack has enough figures for 3 stands with between 8 and 12 figures per stand for infantry and 4 for cav. Therefore 24-36 infantry or 12 cav per blister. The blisters contain a random mix of the stands available with no opportunity to buy the stands separately so there can be some duplication. They still work out more expensive than other manufacturers but thats GW. I am no GW apologist but, personally, I think WM figures are worth it for the quality of the scuplts. S |

Thanks for the clarification. That makes a bit more sense, but since the wording on the website wasn't clear, I thought the numbers provided were fewer. |

"They do look well proportioned and animated but they are a bit 'late' for me. I'd end up having to do hat-swaps for the Morions" I see your point. But morions are cool none the less ;-) Griefbringer |

Anyone have any good suggestions for 10mm Stradiots or Spanish Genitors? I was thinking of Kallistra Barbarian Horse for at least a proportions of the stradiots, since some of them have rectangular shields. Any other recommendations? |
