How large of a table would be needed to play dirtside in 15mm? I want to play a sci-fi mass battles game but my eyes are too old for 6mm anymore. |

I dont see why you couldnt play it in 15mm but I think it would be more an infantry game than an armour game. If you wanted it lots of armour I would probably think an 8x5 played along the length would be best |

The only oddness would be standard infantry movement (only about 2" per turn). Infantry that's not powered armor equipped really needs APCs to do any movement in the game. You may also want to keep your army sizes down a bit so maneuver isn't all crammed. It's doable. |

I'd go with Stargrunt for 15mm. |

Double the measurements and you'll be fine, but also double the playing surface. They're good rules, at least based on my read through. |

I was under the impression that stargrunt is relatively small-scale- I'd like to have something like a "batallion" per side, kinda likes flames of war in space. |

I've had no problem with it. Dirtside has more emphasis on Vehicles so infantry will need to be mounted or fairly static. I've multiplied everything by 4 (25m to the inch). |

Every rules is playable in every scale – just modify the distances, as McWong73 said. You might need a pretty big table for some games, though ;-) |

I've played it in 15mm. We embellished the infantry rules but kept the scale at 100 m per inch. But I think that going to 25 m per inch makes more sense. Then multiply the infantry moves by 4 but the vehicle moves only by 2. As long range shots sort of go away it makes sense to add a few more firing modifiers that might be important at close range. The basic problem is that Dirtside has a great vehicle system & a so-so infantry system & of course infantry is much more important at 25 to 50 m per inch. Probably all the modifications would just wind up being a distorted Stargrunt! Nevertheless I plan to keep trying this out. John Kelly |
