Hi I'm just getting into Pulp/VSF games – literally from zero as of now. I have chosen a theatre of events and a time frame (see above) so now I need some 28mm natives. All suggestions gratefully received. TIA |

Irregular have a range of figures suitable for Sokoto Cailphate in thier 28mm Colonials: link |

North Star's African range would be very good for this if you want jungle adventures in addition to the Savannah warriors. Castaway Arts has Sokoto style warriors which are three times as lovely as Irregular's. I'll try to find links. |

Here are the Castaway Arts Savannah Warriors link The knights in 'lifida' padded cotton armor are particularly lovely. |

How well do Northstar scale with Copplestone ? |

Depends on WHICH Copplestone. All of Foundry's early Darkest Africa figures were sculpted by Copplestone, and the Nothstar matches well. Some of Copplestone's OWN brand figures have experienced scale creep, and will be larger. Breaks my heart that Mark Copplestone doesn't seem to care about scale creep. He is such a VERY FINE sculptor. |

Converting plastics is a cheap option, especially if you're just after Pulp natives with no need to match historical tribes. Have a look at Warlord and Wargames Factory Zulus and Perry Sudanese Ansar Warriors. The WGF ones are a little crude, but dirt cheap, while the Perry ones are some of the best plastics I've ever had the privilege to use. link link link Here are some WGF Zulus made up as generic tribesmen of mine:
You may also find various Ancients minis with head swaps will do. WGF have their Persian infantry sprue for sale extremely cheaply and it's a surprisingly good base for all sorts of jobs. Several companies do good plastic Ancients. Warlord, Victrix and WGF are worth looking at. |
