Well I have now officially completed my 6mm army for Hail Caesar. Unofficially I have already ordered a couple more units…. damn!

Still, good to enjoy a fully painted army, at least until the post arrives.

There is a very pic heavy post on my blog showing each unit. Might be a useful resource to show the compatibility of Baccus and Rapier. Also I have quite a few Rapier models here which aren't pictured on their website.

Thanks for looking!

They look great! Very useful to see Baccus and Rapier minis next to each other as well.

Very nice; I do like the characterful basing.

Cheers lads. I do try to base my units in as authentic an interpretation as possible, so my elite heavy cavalry are in wedges, my colonist cavalry (at least the unit I have so far) I have envisaged as Thessalians in rhomboid formation. Light cavalry are in warms with the archers circling. Pikes are in big blocks, Galatians are imitating a bunch of big burly lads tying to get onto a train at peak hour and I have slightly fudged my Thorakitai into pseudo manipular formation.

Fantastic stuff! Thanks for the detailed series of unit pics and descriptions.

Nicely done, so when do you want the next 1000 Pikemen?

elsyrsyn21 Feb 2014 6:13 a.m. PST

Just occurred to me – you need some romphaia toting Thracians!

I do need some Thracians, but I don't personally like the very static nature of the Baccus ones and Rapier doesn't have one….

One of the glories of the Seleukid army is the relatively small number of pikemen needed. I hate painting pikemen… The Rapier figures are much nicer than the Baccus pike, but still… Martin @ Rapier – if you make a line of Thracians, then I'll buy more of your pike.

Very nice brush work, these little guys have plenty of detail!

Nicely done. I love the look of 6mm even though I don't enjoy painting them.

Me neither. I agitated for quite a while to get them made, but I did not anticipate them ending up looking like formed spearmen. I'd hoped for something more like the pic you posted.

Thracians are on our list, but no promises as to when.

Rakkasan21 Feb 2014 9:41 a.m. PST

The re-designed Thracian Peltasts, pack AGR 2, are not static at all. Very nice figures.
I will agree that the other Thracian pack, AMA 10, Thracian Infantry, Rhomphaias, are rather static.

HarryHotspurEsq21 Feb 2014 10:42 a.m. PST

AGR2 are nice, but they are very much Classical Thracians with small shield and fox-skin hats rather than thureos and helmet by the look of them.

Any idea if they have any with rhomphaia in that pack?

If it's of any interest, when we do our next round of Ancients resculpts the Successor codes will be the first in line. You'll then get the more dynamic posing that you're after plus we'll add some extra codes.

The bad news is that we won't be starting this process until significant inroads have been made into the planned 20thC ranges.

I'm a 6mm fan always have and they look great:-) but the bases are way too thick for my taste.

For someone like me, with thick fingers, it avoids the temptation to lift them by the figures.

MicroWorld Games21 Feb 2014 5:31 p.m. PST

Beautiful work and minis. I'm a fan of the big bases as well, protects the paintjobs when handling on the table.

Good news indeed, and at the snail's pace at which I paint, the timing will probably end up being just right.

Cheers guys. @Robert666 – I know what you are saying but, like some of the other responses, I like the thick base for handling purposes, and because most of my scenery is not 6mm specific, it means the mdf bases on that stuff doesn't look rediculous next to my 6mm lads.

@Baccus – Yes. Yes that is interesting and I will watch this space.

Prince Alberts Revenge22 Feb 2014 7:33 a.m. PST

Fantastic work Nic! Very impressive painting and basing. Love the thick bases, and best for proper handling. Your army is tempting me to paint up some Successor armies in 6mm….

Grignotage22 Feb 2014 7:40 a.m. PST

That is a gorgeous army. The small scale minis really create the idea of mass.
