Last week I posted about my current project: TMP link Here is an update and pics on how I'm progressing.

My first group are the Lannisters. 20 hard plastic figures from Perry, Fireforge, GW elves and Mantic elves. Seven crossbows, eight polearms and the rest swords and leaders. Jamie Lannister is wearing the costume he wore when he captured Ned Stark. Devan Lannister, his cousin has sworn not to cut his hair until Robb Stark is killed.

.

All the figures have added boots, gloves, capes and their unique armor. With that said, it sure is discouraging to look at digital pictures and see glaringly obvious mistakes that need fixing.

As a bonus, here is a shot of my next group….the Nights Watch:

And finally, I am using a Reaper Bone figure to showcase The Queen in the North and winner of The Game of Thrones, Sansa Stark. Yes, Sansa.

Lots of work still to do.
Thanks for looking.

Just noticed that Dark Sword has release a line of Southern Westros archers. The Dark Sword line is reviewed and approved by the author (Martin) and so actually represent what he thinks characters/troops should look like.

The figures unfortunately are much too large 32mm+ to use with other gaming figures but they make great models of what the troops should look like. Many of the archers could be reproduced using the Perry Brother line of plastic WOR figures.

By the way while on the Dark Sword website its worth dropping them an email to suggest bringing out a line of figures which would fit with more conventional wargame scale.

I've seen those archers and they are nice. To me, Lannisters carry crossbows, Starks long bows and everyone else would follow what the major houses carry. Pentos warriors would have a Spanish look to them.

I look at Darksword minis and use them as a guide as they are about as official as it gets.

Thanks. Dan

At the Battle of the Green Fork, the Lannisters form pike blocks with archers in between. It seemed to suggest longbows which appear to be pretty universal in Westeros.
Theon is noted as handy with a longbow (though perhaps because he was partially raised in the north).

Another scene has Stannis' archers practicing at the butts with long bows. Archers are noted in Stannis' army in the Battle Beyond the Wall.

I tend to give the southern houses about equal cross bow/longbow with the north all long bow.

I agree that bows are common throughout Westeros. On the other hand, I am building themed bannermen for specific houses and thus Lannisters and Southern Westeros use cross-bows and plate armor, Starks and other Northmen use bows and mail, the Nights Watch use anything available and the Wildings don't wear armor at all. Exceptions to those rules are common. If I ever get around to the Iron Born or the Freys, then all rules will be discarded.

Time for a Dark Sword rant: Even though GRRM endorses them, a lot of them just seem wrong. Eddard is dressed as if he is leading a contingent during the 9 penny kings war. Tyrion…please. Sandor and Gregor have height but no girth, like the season two HBO Gregor. Jamie looks 'fabulous' and Jon is just another Nights Watch man.

I fell in love with r/imaginarywesteros over on Reddit.com and find inspiration for my project there rather than just rely on the book and/or tv series.

I think thats the reason I picked 28mm hard plastic, easy to convert and cheap enough to have 3 different Jamie's, i.e., Kings Guard, unarmored and in full Lannister dress. Add a couple of differnt Sandor's and some off beat characters and my project takes on a richer context.

Thanks for responding

At the risk of thread-o-mancy, I'm wondering whatever became of this project.

Did it get painted? Did it expand? Westerosi fans want to know!
