isn't Wave three still "pre-order" status? |
miniMo | 18 Feb 2014 6:00 p.m. PST |
Wave 3 has already had a couple of shipments arrive over the last several months. It's in stock at my FLGS. If it's currently out-of-stock at any given location, then yes it's 'pre-order' for their next shipment. Miniature Market just made their initial announcement that they're taking pre-orders for Wave 4. If this follows typical patterns, expect delivery from China by GenCon. |

well, I love the Miniature Market.. was planning to order some of the Wave 3 stuff. however, it does not show these as out of stock, it shows them in pre-order status |

Must resist the temptation to buy the freighter. Must resist the temptation to buy the freighter. Must resist the temptation to buy the freighter. Oh, who am I kidding? Doug |

Dervel, MM doesn't bother to distinguish between the two. Which for X-Wing particularly makes sense anyway, since the arrival of the next proverbial and literal slow boat from China is an unpredictable date in the not-always-near future. Elsyrsyn, I thought I could resist. I thought having 5 AMT/ERTL freighters already flying would help protect me. I was wrong, it's on order! |

The worst part is that the freighter is a gateway drug to the rest of the wave. Even though I'm not all THAT interested in the super TIEs or the new Rebel craft, if I'm ordering the freighter, I might as well

Technically speaking, FFG announced last year that the Freighter and Tantive IV were 'outside of the waves'. The big ships will not be part of lists for standard tournament play. There may or may not be a future format for epic-y cinematic style tournaments

Hmmm, they distinguish the difference on the other products including the previous X-wing expansions. Additionally, I have not found any online sellers that list the transport or the Imperial Aces as anything but Pre-Order? |
miniMo | 19 Feb 2014 9:41 p.m. PST |
Transport, Imperial Aces, and Tantive IV are definitely pre-order, arrival times are a constantly shifting unknown. |

My mistake
Wave 3 was the shuttle and bombers. Imperial Aces and the big ships are not a "wave", but are still on Pre-order. I guess my point was that I am not too excited by the concept of pre-order when they are stacking up behind each other. It sort of starts to look like a kickstarter campaign at some point.. I am looking forward to the new ships, and probably will pick some up, but would prefer to buy them when they become available. |

I think FFG struggles along the best they can while dealing with the genuine and unavoidable hassles of manufacturing in and shipping from China. In the scheme of Chinese Industry, FFG is a small customer and does not go to the front of the line. I'm willing to live with the waiting times along with the consequent affordable prices. |

Remembering the shortages of A-Wings/Interceptors for Wave 2 has me making pre-orders when they become available for thing I like. The cost savings is a bonus that I don't feel too guilty about. I still make plenty of FLGS purchases to more than make up for some internet ordering. |
Dervel | 21 Feb 2014 9:18 a.m. PST |
Well FFG is fairly well known for making X amount, sell them, and move on
and not bad business model btw. Not trying to slam them, my issue is with "pre-orders" so far in advance of the delivery of the actual product. |
miniMo | 21 Feb 2014 10:07 a.m. PST |
Ah, well the pre-orderthing is the online retailers who would like the customers to commit to buying from them. Also not a bad business model for them. As a customer model, it's worth the gamble to not pre-order. When the big e-tailers overstock, they tend to dump the ships through the 'deal of the day' to keep their inventory turnover rolling. The risk is that there is no over-stock and then you have to wait for the next shipment. (FFG seriously miscalculated demand for the HWK-290, and all the stores' orders were shorted in the first run.) I've actually done just fine placing my pre-orders with the FLGS after FFG has announced that the products are "On the boat" which is roughly 4-8 weeks from landfall and clearing customs. (Although I did only get 2/4 of my pre-ordered Hawks.) Imperial Aces has been 'on the boat' since Jan 20, so that makes it RSN. |
Parzival | 21 Feb 2014 10:20 a.m. PST |
Imperial Aces has been 'on the boat' since Jan 20 Apparently with stops in Manila, Jakarta, Fiji, Tahiti, "The Gold Monkey Bar" on Tora Bora, Wellington, NZ, some fishing village on the coast of Chile, Cancun (via the Panama Canal), Baja California (going back through the canal), Nome, Alaska (but only to refuel), and, with significant customs delays, the Port of Los Angeles. |
miniMo | 21 Feb 2014 10:43 a.m. PST |
Yup, that's how those boats from China operate all right =^,^= And this one had an extra long layover at the "Gold Monkey Bar" to celebrate Chinese New Years during the passage. |

Nope, sorry but I preordered 2 boxes of Imperial Aces in September, that's five months that the money has been in Wayland Games' account earning interest and not mine and I still have no ships to show for it. I'm not getting taken in again. If they come out and are available to buy from retailers then I will purchase them. If they're not then my money stays in my account, it's the retailer's loss not mine. |
AlanYork | 28 Feb 2014 8:47 a.m. PST |
I just got an update from Wayland Games, the Imperial Aces' release date has been put back to the 21st of March. That'll mean that they will have had my money for over six months by the time I get them, that's assuming the date isn't put back again. This really doesn't do the reputations of FFG, Wayland Games or the product in general any favours at all. I don't feel respected as a customer and it's certainly confirmed to me that I was right in my decision never to pre order X Wing stuff again if I have to pay for it in advance. |
