Hi guys!

Does anyone know what colour the gun carriages and metalwork were on the artillery in Marlborough's army?

Also, I have found info that the gunners wore red coats faced with blue till ?1716, is this correct?

Thanks in advance!

I painted my carriages in 'white lead', a very pale blueish-grey/white.

However see here.

AFAIK gunners wore red coats, faced royal blue with royal blue waistcoats and breeches and white stockings

Gunners were definitely in red as you described. The evidence on gun carriages is inconsistent, some claiming red while others claim grey. Since the gunners were in red I think grey might be a more interesting contrast. You could probably get away with painting some red and some grey as well for this time period. There was very little standardization.

Thanks guys! – I agree that light grey would look better for the gun carriages!

What? You're doing Brits, now, are you?

What happened to the French? (Or was it Austrians?)

No Norman! – Les Francaises are still my baby, but Lawrence wanted to know about the English/British artillery, so I posted here for the good folk of TMP to find out for him as my other sources on Queen Anne's army are limited!!

Yeah… you think I don't know a sneaky 18th-century Anglo-French alliance when I see one?

The Danish-Ottoman alliance (now available with a hint of Sweden) is ready for you!

Nah, the only Anglo-French alliance of the period was under James 2nd, which ironically allowed the future Marlborough to train under the French at the peak of their military power in the 17th century. I am not Catholic!
