I was watching an episode of House of Cards with my wife and much to my delight and surprise, the lead character, takes up painting 54mm ACW figures for a diorama of the "bloody angle" at Spotsylvania.

I wonder if anyone has seen the show (which is quite good) and can identify the miniatures? My guess is they might be plastics, but I would not swear to it.

Sorry, I've not seen the program, but…..

I remember seeing the actor who played "Higgins" painting 25mm Minifig Napoleonic French Old Guard infantry figures in a scene with Tom Selleck on an episode of Magnum P.I. many years ago.

Higgins was consoling Magnum over some missed opportunity, as Magnum reminisced about a battle long-ago. Turned out it was an important football game during Magnum's youth.

But watching Higgins working on those Minifig Napoleonics was a real treat!

Glad you brought this up…I was watching an episode tonite where the Pres and VP were having dinner together. After dinner the Pres looked at the VP's diorama and held up a figure and asked……Is this a Union or Confederate soldier. Frankly I was amazed that the writers would make the president of the US look that stupid…My opinion of course

Not entirely that stupid of a question as it can be taken as a polite question of interest that betrays all most folks do know about the war – the two sides.

Most of us confronted with someone else's hobby will ask just as basic questions I suspect.

Saw the first season only so far. But since Kevin spacey character is from south Carolina and knowing the machinations he undertook to a achieve his ascension to vp, maybe the president question is really a veiled query about vp loyalty. Just a thought.

Cory, this isn't just about someone elses hobby…its about history. Any superficial study would show the union wearing mostly blue uniforms and the conf gray and a bit rag tag. A common phrase is the war of the blue and gray.
Simply speaking a president should know this minimal knowledge.

I'd go with Custer – in a good script nothing is said by accident. Unlike a book you have to fit in an exact amount of writing, you can't afford to waste words.
