Hackers hit crowd-funding site Kickstarter and made off with user information, the site said Saturday.

Though no credit card info was taken, the site said, attackers made off with usernames, e-mail addresses, mailing addresses, phone numbers, and encrypted passwords.

Surely the time has come for hackers to be summarily executed when caught.

Just amputate their fingers.

The real cost comes when you use the same password across multiple sites. If one is hacked, you need to change all of them

Boy am I glad I don't shop at Target or Kickstarter….

The Target breach was discovered to have resulted from a third-party vendor who had some sort of online sales deal with Target. The hackers hit him and used his access to snatch Target's database. The security flaw was still Target's, however, as they should never have allowed a situation to occur where an entity they did not control had such direct access to the information they held. Analogous to a security guard strictly checking every employee and customer entering a building, but ignoring the mailman.

They probably are… in some miserable backward hellhole of a country I wouldn't want to live in.

Received that email from KS yesterday and changed my password immediately. What annoys me is that they were hacked on Wednesday and waited til late Saturday afternoon to send out the notice.

It really is time to start some serious penalties for hackers when they are caught. I know that people wouldn't go for execution, which is what I would prefer, but it seems like it should be treated more as terrorism than theft. The intent may not be to destabilize society but that is what ends up happening.

+1 Pictors!

This is the kind of stuff that really Bleeped textes me off. I definitely agree there should be much more serious penalties for this crap.

I for cutting their primary used hands off for the first time and the 2nd for the next, there should not be a 3 ed time.

Just amputate their fingers.

Someone Kickstarter'ed a game controller that works by tongue/suck/blow/etc. I guess they would "hack" that to control a keyboard.
