Can we have a like button on here, as I read loads of posts and would like to quickly support them?

Thanks

Jules

I sort of agree with you. But then I sort of think that saying something like, "that's a great idea" or "what a great paint job" is a much nicer way. Not as quick, sure, but even on Facebook I get a bigger kick when people take time to actually write something.

My 2 cents for what it is worth.

Cheers,
JohnG

NO!
NO!
NO!

NO!

Once again, "Why can't TMP be just like all the other sites?"

Space Monkey15 Feb 2014 4:32 p.m. PST

I'm against it.
It's a lazy way to pretend you are actually participating in a community.

combatpainter Fezian15 Feb 2014 4:37 p.m. PST

Yes. I am lazy.

Red358415 Feb 2014 4:40 p.m. PST

thumbs up

Brian Smaller15 Feb 2014 5:55 p.m. PST

it is nice to be somewhere that is not just like all the other sites.

sneakgun15 Feb 2014 6:05 p.m. PST

Like !

Why not, it will be just one more thing to complain about….

highlandcatfrog15 Feb 2014 7:54 p.m. PST

It's already been voted down enough times, thank you very much.

Paint Pig15 Feb 2014 8:31 p.m. PST

Go for it, and for the nay sayers….

"If you dont like it then don't frig'n use it" thumbs up

…your nose will still have the appropriate layers of skin it always had regardless.

Beats reading through endless

"that's nice"
"great work"
"cool"
"awesome"
"I like that"
"wicked"

etc etc etc ad nauseam

regards
dave

I could counter that by paraphrasing your good self :)

"If you dont like it then don't frig'n read it"

CorSecEng15 Feb 2014 9:13 p.m. PST

I'd be more interested in how many people follow a post. Assuming the next iteration has some sort of mechanic for that.

I usually try to put an action phase in my post to prompt a dialog so I can gauge interest better.

Surprise surprise they just happen to come up when one opens a post. So how pray tell does one attempt to find the credible replies to a post without scrolling through the list of "like" type responses?

Clearly a like button would convey the same meaning using less bandwidth and storage (what have you) besides being less trouble/work for the editorial staff to monitor. It is the way of the future (or was 10 years or more ago grin). Stand aside, the tyranny of the like button heralds a new and ghastly dawn.

I'd be more interested in how many people follow a post. Assuming the next iteration has some sort of mechanic for that.

Such progressive thoughts have been aired previously in many varied guises and righteously squashed, take that socialist thinking elsewhere. wink

I just use the little square button with the "!" behind the posts date and time.

dandandan15 Feb 2014 11:32 p.m. PST

TMP will be dead in a decade.

uruk hai16 Feb 2014 12:03 a.m. PST

God forbid we make things simple.

britishlinescarlet216 Feb 2014 4:29 a.m. PST

Why should I care if other people like a post or not? I judge a post on its own merits, not by some kind of popularity contest.

Gah! What is the point? The Twenty First Century sucks….All those Sci – Fi writers, they ALL lied to me….where's the rocket packs? Why am I not living on Mars? Why isn't everything made of Aluminium? Why the hell should I wanta like button?

Gah!!!!

Exactly.
Are we going to keep running this plebiscite until we get "the right answer"? And then, will the topic be off the table, as "settled"?

Silent Pool16 Feb 2014 9:16 a.m. PST

John the OFM, some might say that the bottom line is that different people have different ways of enjoying TMP. So what if it is not what YOU would do? Get over it, and stop being annoyed by something that has absolutely no effect on you. Some might say!

14Bore16 Feb 2014 9:53 a.m. PST

No.

Robert Kennedy16 Feb 2014 1:26 p.m. PST

Hmmmm. To play perhaps the Devil's advocate. Why not have a "dislike" button too. That way certain posters in addition to Stifles can have another indicator of people's dislike for them and their posts.I for one wouldn't use a "like" button myself. Put it up for another vote and see what happens. If it is voted down then those who keep advocating for it can see what the majority would like. Robert

Get over it, and stop being annoyed by something that has absolutely no effect on you.

But, it WOULD affect me! I would see it, and be annoyed by the trendiness of it! grin
Or by the time TMP got around to it, by the "That is SO 2011!" feel of it.

You also seem to be saying that if I do not like something, I should force myself to vote for it, if it ever came to a vote in a Poll. Just to please The Others.
I am confused.

Polite, positive encouragement and praise is boring for the internet but often valuable to the person who posted it. At the same time a Like button would be good for 'proudly lazy' who otherwise wouldn't comment.

If it could be toggled off/on by each member as desired then it would actually be a good thing. Doesn't need to be an all or nothing situation.

TelesticWarrior17 Feb 2014 2:53 a.m. PST

Bad suggestion.
TMP would become like Youtube and any number of other sites that have become soulless and mechanical.

Instead of registering approval or anger with the lazy button, here we can actually take the time to write something useful (sometimes!)

By John 5417 Feb 2014 8:53 a.m. PST

Twice in a week, I find myself agreeing with Telestic Warrior, If you like something someone has posted, type something to that effect, if not, type the same with 'not' inserted.
It's just so lazy, make the Bleeped texting effort!

I prefer typing out my praise/enjoyment of something as opposed to hitting a 'Like!' button which is incredibly generic and also really frak'n lazy.

Thanks,

Pat
