I like the look of the buildings – thought I'd at least try out their free sample :

paperterrain.com/sample.html

I might base on a CD as per this Youtube build : YouTube link

Anyone use them much ? Any hints and tips ? Favourite models ?

Yes, they've had a few positive write-ups on TMP over the years – I've never taken the plunge myself, as shipping plus import fees is a bit off-putting this side of the pond, but I know a good few US gamers who are very happy with them, and I may well finally take the plunge when AQMF delivers, as they look very promising for that.

I quite like the idea of the corn fields as well – they give the visual effect (from most viewing angles) but one can still move figures through easily !

Yes I have bought 1/285 Middle Eastern terrain. Was superb.

They are nice products, but I've always felt the colors were a bit washed out and "off" for lack of better words. YMMV

I've seen the models at Cold Wars and Historicon. They are very nice looking models. The sample shows that they seem easy to build. I think they are worth the money.

My only gripe is that there is no download option. You buy a physical package and build them. I would much prefer a PDF or graphics file that I could print as many as I want. Mostly you will always only want 1 but sometimes accidents happen. Beer gets spilled and so forth. You can go back and print off new ones and rebuild. With the physical package? Not so much.

I use paper terrain in general for my building and fortification needs. I get them from all over the place. Wargame Vault is a favorite stop.

Overwhelming endorsement for Scott's products: excellent products and great value. I have quite a few sets and am very pleased with them all, especially as they include ruins.

However, and it is a big however, shipping to the UK is now almost prohibitive, especially if you get caught for customs duty.

I would certainly buy more sets if they were available for download either on Wargasme Vault or directly from Scott as is done by Patrick at TVAG.

Both the products and the service are excellent – I wonder how long I will be able to resist the fortified town (because I had scratchbuilt walls and all the other stuff just before the Vauban range appeared ..)

I have the 6mm Western Europe set. A bunch of them on the table here:

Easy to build, look good on the table.

Thanks for the kind words, gentlemen!

It is sadly true that overseas postage rates have gone up a lot in recent years. However I do make sure that you only pay the actual postage (plus the envelope, etc.) and I refund any overcharge beyond that.

And since I ship things in a flat envelope, if the order doesn't exceed a pound in weight (or exceed certain size limits) I don't need to attach a customs form so you can avoid any customs fee.

Picked up the oriental village a couple years ago and was impressed by the print job and paper quality. The instructions are adequate, they are easy to build, and the finished product is good looking, versatile, and sturdy. I reinforce them with card from cereal boxes, put them on a mat board base. Add a thin coat of dullcoat and they are nearly indestructible. Only wish Scott offered a PDF version as well. (Hint, hint grin)

I agree that a PDF version is preferable. Mostly because I am known to make some mistakes in assembly and having the ability to print a replacement is nice.

His work is outstanding and looks great!

I have some European buildings that are very nice. I use minwax polyuethane to give a little strength, also foamcore interior.

The free PDF file is good for changing scale. I have been making houses and stores for zombie game in 75mm by enlarging paper buildings and pasting them on small mailing boxes. This file worked quite nicely. Changing scales is good reason for PDF files.

Another vote for paperterrain.com I have several of his products and they very good. Excellent paper quality and the colors are much darker and richer in real life than the photos suggest on the webpage. At first I was in the camp of "just give me a download so I can print as I please" but once I bought some, I realized I was getting a better product than I could print myself and I decided the price was more than fair for what I got. I still buy other pdf paper terrain from time to time, but never hesitate to buy Scott's stuff if it matches what I'm looking for.

And in answer to the original question: do a lot of people use PaperTerrain? Well, I've been in business for about 9 years now and I've had around 2,000 mail order customers (2,000 different customers with quite a few of them repeat customers). This doesn't include direct sales at conventions. So I would say, yes, a lot of people do use PaperTerrain :)

I recently received my order for some Italian buildings (In 15mm and 6mm). Communication was excellent, postage to NZ was reasonable and I am very happy with what I received.

Hmm. Half the awesomeness of printable terrain is that you're not bound by scale. Is there some glut of terrain PDFs showing up on bittorrent that would dissuade a seller from offering the printable files for sale?

chironex24 Apr 2014 10:32 p.m. PST

I've only tried one so far, but have not built it and seem to be losing interest in the project for which I bought it. (Early WW2, Middle East/North Africa, 15mm.)
May try again if I end up swithcing to another scale, though…

Like and use Scott's buildings extensively.

He recently printed up his pontoons in true N scale for a project that I'm working on. Highly recommend!
