Useful as always. Are those round shields? The rest of the equipment looks quite 'Norman' in many respects.

It is difficult to tell if the shields are round or kite. The apparent shield in De Repositorii is round. If the shields carried by the 'Pagans' are kites, they would be very wide.

In the early 11th century the Lombards are most likely to have dished round shields and that fits the evidence here.

Round shields seems the most likely, acording to the Museums in Rome anyhow as they have a bunch of fittings from a Lombard shield and they fit on a round Carolingian style shield.
In C11th the Frankish influence seems to be the dominate one ( saddles, high stirrup, light spears).
