Any idea who owns the copyright on the old game "Ship of the Line" by Juggernaught?

I have my old very old copy and cannot find it any longer. If I can find the owner I would love to revamp it and bring it back into print.I always loved the game.

One of the first AoS games I played many years ago at the club in Southampton. I found the very large gridded cloth that we used for games the other day :)

This was a really long time ago, and memory is a little weak, so bear with me…in the early 80's my partners and I bought the rights and printed the last version (the one with the "line" drawing of the ship of the line on the cover) of the rules. Not too long thereafter I had to leave the business and close my retail outlet (having lost my shirt, pants, and socks!). I transferred (maybe verbally, maybe in writing, maybe casually – don't remember) all the remaining stock and rights to my partners for SOL, our lines of miniatures and a pretty fair number of rules & boardgames.

Many, many moves later I have lost touch with them, although as I recall one died in the 80's, and I saw them last at a convention in Baltimore in that decade. They (Juggernaut, all of them were from Philadelphia) would have been the last holders of reproduction rights. A copyright attorney could probably figure out who now has those rights, and if any wish to contact me to assist I am (obviously) reachable. Given my druthers, I'd probably opt for publication again – a solid set of rules that was easy enough to play is how I remember them! Sorry I can't be of more help…

Ashurman,
That is very helpful. That may help a lot. With all the rules that have come out recently I still think SoL is the best. I am launching with my partners a new game production company over 2014 called BattleGuys.

While we are paying the bills with the various fantasy offerings we will be releasing my partner and I are huge historical fans and plan to use this as an opportunity to put out several historical miniature rules sets.

There are several sets including SoL that we have always thought were great and would love to put out in a high quality format.

Right now it seems like most of the choices out there for quality historical products are either overly complex offerings that are off putting to potential new players or overly simplified offerings from the old GW guys which leave you with very little real flavor for the period your fighting other than the miniatures.

Know what I mean?

I will start looking for the guys with the copyright. You have been very helpful. If you happen to remember anything please point them toward Battleguys or email me at jeff@battleguys.com

A really nice full color version of the rules with missions, built in campaigns lots of images, gaming accessories and supporting iOS and Android products would be great for SoL.

David,

I'm right there with you. We were interested in the Kickstarter Napoleonic game done like the wings of War series but the price of the set with so few ships turned our gaming group off. We pulled out our SoL rules and started thinking how nice a newly revamped version of this great game would be.
