"I don't know what effect these men will have on the enemy, but by God, they terrify me."

excellent tutorial !
what's terrifying (to me) is doing multiple highlights on 6mm troops and thinking how many hundreds of them i'll need !

How long do you figure it takes you to paint each figure?

Perfect six10 Feb 2014 11:52 p.m. PST

I can paint around 10 miniatures in an hour once I'm familier with the subject, And some colours use less highlight layers.

Glad you liked the tutorial

To be honest I advise 6mm painters to go the opposite route: prime black, block colors, done. I tell gamers new to 6mm to paint the unit, not the figure. I did up a Napoleonic battalion of over 200 figures in about 4 hours.

Individually they will look nowhere near as nice as yours. But I can paint a complete unit of 48 figures in 60-120 minutes depending on the complexity of the uniform. I usually work on 3 units at one: one primed, one being painted, one being based.

Personally I was never happy with a single colour paint job , I tried it but I always found myself adding more layers, even the one in the tutorial I had to stop myself from doing just that. It's become a habit now but I'm happy with the effect.

I will take on board what you said about the beginner just starting out and maybe add a more quicker and simpler tutorial unless you have one I could link to.

Richard

Richard:

If you like it don't let me stop you!

I guess it comes down to why you like 6mm. I sell on the "loads of figures fast and cheap" aspect. I always mention some amazing pike blocks I once saw where only the spear head and shoulders of the inside figures was painted. Everything else was just black. They looked amazing at any distance over 12"

Plus, with 6mm your unit of Greeks looks like a unit and not "Ajax and his drinking buddies."

If you are looking for more "one and done" tutorials head over to Baccus6mm.com for several…

very good work!!!

i do take some extra time painting cavalry but not infantry.

I do paint a 36fig unit in about one hour and a half; i do paint some more detail on those miniatures in front of the unit and those on the last rank so i can see their backs

some good flags and the unit is done!

i think i ve got some pictures elsewhere in the TMP… but i dont remember

Very nice useful tutorial . You can paint them while they still on strips, makes painting and basing a lot easier rather than as separate figures.

Never quite understood the 'pile it high sell em cheap' 'they not real figures attitude, to 6mm. If the figures justify so little care why bother with figures at all? Then again I have spent 30 years trying to persuade people that the smaller scales have advantages not merely confined to cost and trying to make something worth more effort than a coat of black primer lol

Leon you are right. But in between blue primer and a brush masterpiece there is life too…

I do baccus inf in lots and your cav with care, as you can see in the pictures, i love adler cavalry

danikine74,
Very nicely done but unfortunately its the infantry that make the profit that subsidises the cost of making the cavalry……….lol

Thanks for the comments guys

Leon as you can see by my blog I'm a big fan of all your figures the detail is perfect for the painter .

Half way through a large order of portugeuse infantry pictures are up on the blog.

Then next is 400+ French young guard wich will keep me busy for a wile

Lovely finish to that little figure, steady accurate brushwork.
