I have some 1/72 WWII aircraft to use as ground attack and wanted some advice as to flight stand material. Looking through the TMP posts seems that plexiglass tubing drilled into a largish clear base should do the trick as I don't need them to be able to move up or down for aerial combat. My question is where in Sydney can you get plexiglass rods and bases for that scale? Or is there a better alternative?Any help appreciated cheers |

You will have better results if you search for 'perspex rod' or 'acrylic rod'. I've made some stands using rod 7mm or so in diameter for fighters and I have some 10mm rod that looks better for larger aircraft. This is one google result that I've found, I don't know about retail outlets in Sydney (I'm in Melbourne) link |

Use the extending telescopic rods, which have a magnet on the end, they're sold for retrieving screws, etc when they drop down the back of cabinets etc. You just need to glue a nut on the underside of the aircraft.

Ditto what Fire at Will says about the telescoping magnet things, usually dirt cheap. Also the ends often have a pen like clip which unscrews which enables you to screw them to bases etc. |

If you choose the clear plastic route , some cheap plastic wine glasses can also do the trick , cut off the cup section at top of the stem and its done , dress up the base as needed. The Telescopic magnet things were sold at Auto Cheap a few years ago if you have them in Sydney , ive seen them in Melbourne stores . cheers Tom |
