Hey everyone! Just recently ran a grim-dark space game, where all of our (anti) heroes died epicly in a frigate crash
. so now we need a new system to run. We have played star wars, firefly, starcraft, all of the 40k systems, halo, gears of war, space Odyssey, and back to the future games (mostly d20 except the 40k systems) So now we are looking for a good freeborn system to run star trek with. Your thoughts? Thanks Austin |

I agree that FASA put out great Star Trek game. It is long out of print, however. E-bay is probably your best bet to find a copy. |

By 'freeborn' system do you mean one that's not dedicated to any particular license/setting? My first choice would probably be GURPS
with the Space and Prime Directive supplements. GURPS is really quite a simple and fast system at its core, the character creation takes some time but it's worth it IMO. It's a toolkit system that a good GM can bend to good use. If I were after something more D&D in nature I'd probably go for Stars Without Number and tweak its dials to favor Star Trek. I really don't think that Star Trek requires a dedicated set of rules, just a GM who groks the setting and what elements of it appeal to the group
where to set it on the continuum between weird adventure (TOS) and political/military intrigue (Deep Space Nine). |

I'm still using the FASA system even though it's been out of print 20+ years. |

The latest version of Mekton (zeta I think). It is written for giant robots but would work just fine for Star Trek and Star Wars style gaming as well. There is a new version of the game in development, I've not seen that one yet. |

Give a try to Prime Directive. There are d20, d20Modern and GURPS versions link |

I think I have an extra GURPS Prime Directive if you want to work out something for it. |

I'd try D6 Space. You can't beat the price! And Mr Google has content to help feed your campaign so you don't need to create it all yourself. |

FASATrek best trek. Altho I have been using Chaosiums' BRP (Basic Role Playing) system. It works very well with FASATrek. |

Fasa Trek is by far the best I have a spare copy of it too simple yet great uses a D10 sytem I love the character Generation system. The star trek Combat simulator is an amazing roleplaying aid for space combat. |

I came across my copies of the FASA game and considering selling them. Anyone interested? |

My two big issues with GURPS Prime Directive are the underpowered phasers and the lack of star ship stats. At the time they were waiting for GURPS Vehicles but since SGJ really doesn't care about that particular project it's never happened and it hasn't been done for GURPS Space Ships. Yes, I want to play it in a system that makes SFB look like Candyland, why? |

Prime Directive with the Mongoose Traveller rules, if that project ever gets finished. My 1st choice would be Savage Worlds…. |
