"It's noon on a Sunday. The perfect lazy afternoon. I'm sitting on the living room floor with four friends, eating sugary cereal, and fiddling around with some particularly stubborn Transformers. Ryan brought his copy of the movie, but for now, we're just trying to figure out how to get Soundwave's shoulder unstuck.

We all had experiences like this. The only difference with mine is it's 2014, and we're all in our 30s.

I missed Transformers. I missed everything, actually. I was born in 1982, and grew up mostly disconnected from popular culture. (I've only met a handful of other people who grew up as far out of touch as I; most were raised in strictly religious households.) I started school without the shared frame of reference that lubricated first-grade friendships, and it became a self-propagating cycle. Trends passed by in my peripheral vision; I never fixated on Transformers, or the Mario Brothers, or Jem and the Holograms…"

Well better late than never I suppose. What else can one say? For me it's all about playing with the toys, but YMMV on that.

The cartoons are pretty awful for anyone over the age of about 10-12…

but for those younger than that… they are MAGICAL… still today
