The next ship of my slow growing Spanish fleet is the 80 gun 3rd rate Argonauta, one of the four Montanes class SOLs. She was sunk by the HMS Ajax at Trafalgar. Inspiration painting:

Beautifully done, Vol. You've captured her very convincingly. |

NICE! You even have the flag flowing the right direction, you usually see it flowing aft. |

You are so good Vol. I just love your work my friend. I think you are getting better at this. I may have to start hating you. Only for a little bit, and not for long. keep me on my toes and make me try harder. Be safe Rory |

Thank you all for the kind comments. I look at some of my earlier ships that I was so proud of, and I just want to re-do them. The rigging is wrong, painting mistakes, etc. But, they are British ships, so
. Regards, Vol |

Have I up-set you Vol? "But, they are only British ships,so
.." Are we 2nd class to you? You can go off people. O.K. you are right I'm in the same boat (sorry). I to started my Brits first and they do look very tied now. This is the nature of the beast. But hey! they stayed longer at sea than most nations, so they would look more tied. The term I would use is "Distressed". Be safe,my friend Rory |

No offense intended. I was just thinking that I have so many unbuilt Brits, do I really want to go back and rerig the four I screwed up? Sorry if I offended. |

Vol, My dear, dear friend. You could not offend me. I know it will be hard for you, but only re-rig 3 of the ships, if you must. If you leave 1 ship as it is. You can see how much better you are at the art and secrets of being a master 1-1200 scale ship builder. Be safe my friend your un-offended Rory |

Vol, have you ever been tempted to extend the height of the masts? We see the paintings and the height of the masts does seem to be bigger than the length of the gun deck. I tried a quick peak at threedecks.org for the Spanish can came up with nada for the mast height. Lovely work, as always. |

Hi Kevin. You know, I have thought about it from time to time. I just went with the stock size from GHQ, although I did replace the lower masts with music wire. I could have added there but then the lower course woul have been too high. GHQ has excellent hulls but their sail sets are less than consistent. The masts for l'Ocean were much too long. I have already started the rigging on Monarca, so maybe on the next GHQ ship I can add a small mast to the topgallant masts. |

Vol, I am new to 1/1200 so forgive the basic questions. GHQ doesn't make a Spanish 80 so how did you do it? Swap sterns or just paint and flag differently? Thank you again and your work is inspiring. Steve w |
