We are very pleased to release our latest 18mm codes for the War of the Spanish Succession, French cavalry and artillery.

The French cavalry are the so-called "Light Cavalry" who were in fact the line cavalry of the army. We have had them depicted with swords as well as with pistols because some rules sets may distinguish their tactics, said to have emphasized the pistol more than the sword upon impact. Having models depicted with pistol in hand is a useful way to represent that, or alternately they can be used to show distinctions in morale grade, or simply to offer more pose variety.

A command set for the "light" cavalry is available as well.

We've also released a first artillery set, representing a medium field piece and five crewmen -- cannoniers and officers. These are suitable for French but may be used for several other nations as well.

Sculpted by Mike Broadbent, painted by Rafa. All are available now, at the link below. Next up will be French marshals and general officers, as soon as they are painted! Hot on their heels will be Bourbon Spanish infantry, then Spanish cavalry and after them the Dutch.

My friend is going to collect the French and I'll be doing the Dutch and English when they become available!

Bravo!

If I were to do the WSS in 15mm all over again, this is the way I would go!

Oh Bugger04 Feb 2014 3:51 p.m. PST

Aye, they are good.

do all those bay horses have black lower legs? under the stockings in some cases? looks a bit dodgy from here.

khurasanminiatures10 Feb 2014 3:55 p.m. PST

They don't come pre-painted. grin

i know that I was aking about these particular one here..and why no eyes on the horses for that matter?

Very nice sculpting! My only niggle would be with the horses' heads, which look slightly too heavy – or is that the camera angle?

Why does it matter? You can paint them any shade you like. You may want to contact Rafa with further questions about horse painting methodology -- he painted them. I think they look brilliant.

Partly the angle I think Musketier, but after all the image you posted is a painting, not a photo of a horse. Here's a photograph:

Personally I think Mike's horses are the best in the business!

The horses look very good. If someone wants large heads try Essex.

I'd ditch the whole range since the Colonel doesn't approve of the horse's paint jobs. He is, after all, the final word on all things 18th century.

"the image you posted is a painting, not a photo of a horse. Here's a photograph"

- and your photograph shows a head markedly more slender than the ones on the figures. I'm not saying they're oversized, it's just a matter of proportions: Compare the ratio of height (jaw to ears) vs. length (ears to muzzle). This was even more pronounced on the older breeds, cf. period horse portraits.

Just a niggle anyway, as I said. I'm sorely tempted to buy into your range. If you do a good variety of dead and wounded at some point, including riderless horses and dismounted cavalrymen, I probably shall – the rules I use require numerous casualty vignettes.

Good grief!

scotty0817 Feb 2014 2:36 p.m. PST

Those look very nice. What are Khurasan like sizewise to other 15/18mm ranges?

Brownbear17 Feb 2014 2:56 p.m. PST

I think you have created a great range. Not my scale but just great.
