I'm looking for something to watch. I see Helix looks interesting. Any good? I liked Fringe a lot. Possibly biased my reaction to Helix.

I saw the pilot for Defiance. I thought the acting wasn't great but willing to give it a shot if anyone here has watched the first season and thought it was interesting.

So what's your opinion of either show?

Defiance was very good. A gritty SF/Police Drama with a touch of humor. Basically if you liked Firefly, you will like Defiance.

I will second that about Defiance. I enjoyed it.

I enjoyed Defiance--while not as good as Firefly, in that the writing/acting weren't quite to that level, the stories were for the most part pretty decent and they did not show a reluctance in killing off characters, so that made it a little less predictable than some shows out there.

Helix I've only seen the first episode. The production values are decent and the actin didn't seem bad, but some of the decisions made by the characters just seemed off to me. Maybe future episodes will make me think better of the characters, but I have sinking hopes in that regard.

I haven't seen Helix, but really like Defiance.

I liked Defiance very much.

Helix, I gave up on after the second episode. The characters decisions were so bad/idiotic that I simply couldn't watch. Too bad as I really liked the concept and actors. The writers really let them down.

I like Defiance.
I have watched it 3 times in its entirety and still like it.

I also bought the Xbox game to play until the show resumes.

Defiance was better than I thought it would be, Helix was far less than I expected. Found Defiance more like Deadwood with a fair chunk of Firefly DNA.

Defiance is great. Helix was just another oh you bad corporation you meets resident evil.

I thought the pilot for Defiance was a bit of a let down after the year long hype for it. But the series picked up pretty quick and got good.

Another vote for Defiance. And similar to A.B. above, I bought the computer game and I am playing waiting on the next season.

I liked Firefly/Serenity. I gave Defiance about 4 shows before I gave up. It just wasn't for me.

Defiance just became a show with humans pretending to be Aliens with little make up to he honest. I am tired of the Star Trek alien. Throw a funny forehead or big ears on a human and call it an alien. Give me a real alien with different anatomy and motivations.

Helix the wife and I are enjoying. We are just along for the mystery. Humans do dumb things all the time or are they motivated by something we don't know about. Couple moments in the last episode made the hair on my neck stand up and I was going Bleeped text. Like when the Major was burning some evidence and as he walked away he heard the evidence start to make noise and he looked back over his shoulder in one of those Bleeped text moments.

Defiance it's so so… not bad, but not engaging either. Maybe I was expecting more nuanced storylines. Helix has an interesting premise, but the whole plot is so predictable that it is almost as watching a movie that you have already seen a thousand times. I guess that I will wait until Orphan Black starts its second season.

Helix is Aliens meets The Thins meets Outbreak written very badly using a tried & trusted formula.

Saying that though it is an enjoyable watch shouting at the TV every week at the stupid things the characters would apparently do in a given situation. :)
