Is there a source for the size of RN and USN ships marine detachments around 1900? |

I'm not sure if the Royal Navy RMLI hand fixed unit sizes? A lot of it depended on the size of the ship they were serving on. I don't think it's until the later 20th century that they were formed into more regiment style units with their own artillery etc. They were more a vanguard for the Naval Brigade. Their main role apart from security on board and at land based naval posts was as skirmishers. They were formed into a Corps much later than the US Marines. I could be wrong? Have you looked for sources of landings using RMLIIN China? |

^^^ I agree with this. The USS Oregon had a 25 man marine detachment, the Olympia had a 30 man marine detachment, and the Maine had a 40 man marine detachment. |

There's this from their website: link Unsure what the 1900 regulations were, but it appears there were detachment sizes based on ship class. RMLI and RMA were separate units until 1923 when they were amalgamated to form the current Corps. |
