Disclaimer: I am not trying my best to get into the Dawghouse and raise my stifle count. I simply came back after years and have a few questions. 1) I see Kevin Kiley is active in the forum as a Brechtel198, at least I suppose it is him. What about his historical "opponents" from napoleon-series.org and other corners of the internet, Dave Hollins and Peter Hofschröer? If I remember correctly, Hollins was banned from here and Hofschröer used some username I don't recall. Have they returned? 2) I see two boards missing, Napoleonic History and Napoleonic Rules, or is my memory at fault? Any rationale for their nuking? |

Do you have relatives in ze Vaterland, perhaps? Nein! I might live in it though, depending on definition. Is Breslau Vaterland? |

The Napoleonic History board was merged into the Napoleonic board some years back. AFAIR it was a result of a vote by members that there was no practical differentiation between the two boards. Rick |

And then specific rules boards came along

Napoleonic History was set up for learned and scholarly discourse. This was so that the usual belligerents would confine their disputes to Napoleonic Discussion. To work well, you would need the bad actors to admit that they were bad actors and stay away from History. You can imagine how well that worked out, and you would be right. |

You sir, are The Wafer Thin Mint. The other two antagonists show up occasionally under different names. Hollins might have been reinstated, but I'm not sure. |

It would be neat if (similar to stifle count) one could lookup the status of a member to know if they are still part of the fold but that seems very problematic systemically since the most practical lookup would be username and that can obviously change
so goes. The vast unknown and anonymity of the WWW. Cheers, The Bandit |

I think Dave Hollins actually asked the editor to lock the account to stop himself from posting, rather than being banned per se. Peter Hofschroer has returned a couple of times and been banned on his new accounts. Regards |

I worked in Sudan n the '80s and at the time the country's economy was shot. Myself and some mates had an idea that those vast desert spaces could be used by those with irreconcilable differences to fight it out. Just required a bulk purchase of a lot of ex-soviet bloc kit – paint one side red and the other blue, and sign a binding contract to adhere by the result. Of course we were thinking about using it to resolve Palestine-Israel or Northern Ireland, but might equally apply in this case. I guess pistols at dawn has gone out of fashion too? |

No, fashion isn't the problem, they would simply stand and scream at each other over the authenticity of the dueling pistols. |

No, fashion isn't the problem, they would simply stand and scream at each other over the authenticity of the dueling pistols. "That dueling pistol has a PERCUSSION CAP!?!" "YOUR gunpowder *REEKS* of twentieth century URINE!" Shame, really
Those parties ALL have *SO MUCH TO ADD* to the myriad questions of Napoleonic/Early 19th Century Western Military History
Too bad some sort of inducement couldn't be found to allow/compel them to agree to publish or otherwise disseminate their *COLLECTIVE* KNOWLEDGE of that era which, I'm *sure* took MANY decades of combined research and learning to acquire! Maybe over a cold/warm brew in a "neutral" corner of the western world? Charlie |

I read the thread title & old wounds started to twinge. |

Yes, so much to add. If they were to return their posts would need editing
any volunteers? |

I was always struck by the fundamnetal paradox of the "Call of Cthulhu" – as your knowledge of the dark side increased, your sanity was proportionately destroyed – I wonder!!!! |

any volunteers? If I could edit "out" the snide and snarky and all the bickering regarding which author is THE most authoritative, Yep, I'd volunteer! (and I believe there would STILL be enough good info left over!) Once again, a shame. |
MichaelCollinsHimself | 30 Jan 2014 11:51 p.m. PST |
Go charared ! Who would you volunteer to be an editor/censor for? |

What those petulant geniuses need is a good old RC "Christian Brothers" Teacher/Professor to oversee their "discussions" (After of course showing them "the error of false pride")! Charlie |

What those petulant geniuses need is a good old RC "Christian Brothers" Teacher/Professor to oversee their "discussions" (After of course showing them "the error of false pride")! No, not Brothers. Nuns. When "correction" is needed on this scale, you call the pros. |
charared | 31 Jan 2014 8:40 p.m. PST |
Mserafin, I've been "taught" at one level or another by Dominican Nuns, Christian Brothers, Xaverian Brothers, Franciscans AND Jesuits
and while ALL have their "corrective" procedures
Believe me, "Christian Brothers" are the most "Biblical"! Charlie |
