Great country, excellent people.

Denmark in a nutshell! Glad to hear that you had a great time :-)

22 years Royal Navy, 3 years with the Royal Marines attached…..

Your poor back must have been killing you.

(Thanks for your service.)

Long ago and far away I was in the Army Intelligence Corps, hardly the army, stationed in Munich. We were in mufti and lived on the economy. My personal weapon was a .38 snub nosed detective, which was better for throwing than firing. Keep in mind, my unit was on the front line of defense during the Cold War. Dangerous though it was, duty in post-war Bavaria was "the happy time!" The mark was 25 cents and the girls loved us, or was it the American cigarettes? – time draws a veil.

More seriously, a few years back there was a very fine young woman, a sergeant in the training command at Leavenworth who with her commander were big Napoleonic miniatures gamers – she posted on TMP. Then one day her husband was severely injured in Afghanistan and subsequently confined to Bethesda. She was able to get a transfer to the Pentagon but the last I heard, before we lost touch, was her husband's wounds were life altering. God bless them wherever they are.

@bgbboogie: When we SLAM'd CTCRM we kept the Mess decks for the recruits to ensure the team ethos – not a hair dryer or x-box in sight for 32 weeks ;-)

30 years in the Women's Auxiliary Balloon Corps

Its a man's life in the Women's Royal Auxiliary Ballon Corps!

But I thought some people on this forum would expect me to default to the accommodation style of the better-known Brylcreemed stereotype!

Of course – its the law – Can't mention the RAF without allusion to 5 star Hotels! Actually all the Crabs I've met have been good eggs – especially the Marpat Nimrod crews – how you can fly any number of those missions without going insane is beyond me!

I'm reluctantly retired also – 3 years in the TA as a youngster then 22 years in the Royal Navy. No regrets, would recommend it to anyone.

I now aim to live as long as possible to see the Govt off for as much Pension as possible!

To stay alive the rules are as follows:
1. If wargamer, then ensure lead pile never shrinks.
2. If wargamer and lead pile is complete then die.

Thus immortality is possible.

Off to Pompey soon so hope to be in Sultan Wargmes Dungeons with Paul S, just awaiting final details.

Sparker05 Feb 2014 3:36 a.m. PST

I'm jealous Royal – have a great game and say Hi to Paul for me!

General Jumbo05 Feb 2014 5:19 p.m. PST

Sparker.
I've been hoovering up a service pension for the last 23 years, so one year longer than my actual service now!
I believe that's a WIN.

Sparker05 Feb 2014 7:05 p.m. PST

Respect!

So given that Boy's time doesn't count, that would make you around 63? You've got Ages yet – should see the Chancellor off for a few quid!

Your maths is almost spot on.
Still have one or two of my own teeth, but they are a sorry looking testament to the atrocious standards of the RAF Dental Service over the years.
Which reminds me, and this is absolutely true, at one stage the surnames of the two dentists at my first unit were Sqn Ldr Butcher and Flt Lt Savage.
Apparently they could never see the joke…….

19 years, 3 months, 13 days and still counting.
Not a bad stretch of undetected crime.

Come and see me in 3 years when you've done 22 and a half and I'll buy you a drink for putting in some real time…

One of my colleagues where I work is/was a crab; he's quite justifiably pleased that I talk to him on occasion….

If a Provy can't dodge the orderly room who can?

nickinsomerset08 Feb 2014 7:57 a.m. PST

22 years, sprog!!

Tally Ho!

Sparker08 Feb 2014 9:30 p.m. PST

22 years, sprog!!

Go on then, Old Father Time, how many years under your belt?

Ah – I see you joined in 1985 and are still going – how did you get past the 40 year line – have you been groomed for high command ?(Sir!?)

nickinsomerset09 Feb 2014 1:07 a.m. PST

Not quite Sparks, only 26 years, and I don't count 5 years in the TA before! Popped smoke in Oct 2011.

Tally Ho!
