"The Arjun Mk.II MBT (Main Battle Tank) was unveiled for the first time to the public at India's 65th Republic Day Military Parade, January 26, 2014. Thle latest version of Arjun MBT is aimed at exemplifying DRDO's strength in the area of defence technology – design and development, leading to the production of state of the art weapon systems for India's armed forces.

Mark two version of Arjun the Indian Main Battle Tank, incorporating over seventy improvements over Arjun Mark I, has been developed by DRDO in a record time of just under three years.

The upgraded version has 89 improvements over its predecessor. These include long-range missile firing capabilities, panoramic sights with night vision, enhanced weapon penetration, digital control, better hunter-killer capability, improved auxiliary power unit (APU), better communication equipment and navigation aid. Probably not as bad as the Arjun Mk. I.

I am confident that someday, India's industry will be able to build an actual tank, and they won't have to stoop to buying crap like the T-90.

That day is not today, though.

Still a modified T-72, but most likely more than sufficient for the region. Remember that the only near-peer power for India there is China, which also uses upgraded T-72s.

Hopefully by 'night vision', they're referring to IR. I've seen tank guncam video from Syria, and a lot of it. Allowing for effective, aimed follow-up shots (the gun kicks up massive dust clouds) would make a lot of difference in an urban environment in that part of the world.

Like to see it match up against the T-99.

If I was equipping a nation on the cheap, I would start with T72s, probably the Polish version. Probably NATO-spec 120mm and co-ax, and a big 1500hp MTU diesel (and Renk transmission) pushing it. 42 tons and 1500hp should be really quick. Not sure if I could do continuous-band tracks, but I'd sure try to find something to minimize track maintenance and possibility of thrown tracks.

But I'd probably scrounge around for the plain M1's fire control or something comparable. Not absolute top-of-the-line, but solid, reliable, and hard to break, even with poor maintenance. Maybe what the Israelis used on the early Merk3s.

I'm looking for something that's roughly the PSL rifle of Tanks. Hard to break, and good accuracy.
