This past weekend we were discussing what games might be on deck for Nashcon this year. David Raybin was asked when he would run Balaclava again. This is by far his most popular game because while the field is 20 feet long there are very few troops on the board. A lot of maneuvering by mostly cavalry. One wrong move – literally – and the British efforts in the Crimea may be doomed. The Russians have abundant artillery, and the Cossacks are everywhere. The French cavalry may arrive in the nick of time to save the Light Brigade – or not. And who says the Turks can't hold longer and save the guns. Where is Lord Cardigan at the start of the game? Why on his yacht. So this year David has promised to redo the Balaclava game in 28mm. The rest of us will help with the troops boxes and assorted terrain. David will send me the actual detailed scenario which will be posted later.

Having played it many time, I have won and lost as the Russians. Great Pictures and rules, best of all they are free! |
