Think that I was there taking a beer, and now it's gone.

"On the contrary, there is better news from Hougoumont. Here are some pictures taken on 25/01/2014."

Don't suppose there's any chance of them demolishing that bloody mound, is there?

Nice beer and building, but miserable, ignorant and rude staff every time I've been there (last time in May, when we gave up waiting to be served after 20 minutes and went across the road to the museum cafe, where they actually want to serve customers). There are also many FAR better restaurants in Belgium (Mmmm, Flemish Stoo… dribble…). And 'The Emperor's Bivouac'?! In his dreams…

As you say though, please god, no McDonald's.

Great news!

And other interesting news a little further south, where yesterday a new monument was unvailed at Quatre Bras.

The Cambronne is gone. My lads will weep when we go back next month. We do well remember the harridan who "greeted" us on entry, but I found that, if you kept smiling, tried to speak French and stuck it out, you could just get served. Just, but no smile………

Looks like the area around the mound is flattened, OK they were not 1815 buildings obviously, but they had a charm. I dread to think what modern architect will now come up with……..
