How are people storing their spaceship models? I have a number of starline 2400 models which are mounted on ninja magic stands and wondering how to store them?

Thanks

Mike

Pic/pluc alimininum camera case from amazon. Holds 40 ships, space stations and stands and cost £15.00 GBP

More details? The ships are mounted on plugs and I am trying to work out the best way to store them without stands using foam or something to protect them.

Well either lay them all down on a foam bed in a case of some sort and glue foam to the top so it sandwiches them in or do the pluck foam thing.

I personally use plano boxes with a bit of foam in each compartment to help the ship. Small ships get several layers like foam-ship-foam-ship.

I use the Army Transport 1" foam trays from Sabol designs. These are the ones that are pre cut.

I used magnets to attach the ships to the bases. The ships are flatter when the bases are off. The bases are stored in a spare box. I hope this helps.

Plano boxes. As I type/speak I've got one in front of me loaded with BT micro-ASFs and DropShips.

Handgun case from WalMart. Lay them on their sides get two layers.

I go with the sabol trays too.

I've got my BFG ships in an Army Transport (one of the motor pools because of the high stands).

That said, all my new stuff has been going in book boxes with bubble wrap. It's been working fine so far.

I use plastic gun cases ( got mine at "Cheaper Than Dirt" online store, WalMart is fine as well). The egg crate soft foam is enough spacing and foam to hold your minis in place and protect them.

I did see a friend of mine use plastic storage see-thru boxes with rows of parallel holes in the bottom. He then ran rubber bands thru the holes. The pairs of holes were spaced close enough to keep a standard hex stand in place (about 0.75 – 1"). So if this symbol "|" represents the side of the box and ":" represents the pairs of holes, the bottom of the box would look something like this-
|: :: :: :: :|
|: :: :: :: :|
|: :: :: :: :|
The rubber bands would be strung from left to right in this case.

If you have questions, PM me.

My BFG fleet is covered in antennae and other delicate greeblies. It was also some of the first minis I ever collected, so I didn't have all the tricks up my sleeve that I do now.

I strongly recommend magnetizing your fleet. 1mm by 3mm disk magnets on both your bases and your ships. The number one source of damage by far (even more than the antenna bending/breaking) is ships breaking off their bases. The magnets are cheap from companies like K&G and magnetizing a whole fleet is child's play. Simply glue one base to the bottom of your mini, and another to the end of the stem. Use a "reference stem" to ensure that all your polarities are the same.

Make sure your bases have a reference market to indicate which way is forward, since the magnets do allow the ship to rotate very easily on its stem during play.

For storing the minis themselves, I did the gun case thing, but A) my collection got too big, and B) the walmart case I got tends to bend the antennae. Transport is always an adventure. ;(

Wellspring — don't use magnets for both ends. On one side (probably the ship side) use a small nail. That way you don't have to worry about getting the magnets right, and the nails are usually cheaper.

I use foam trays. I prefer the pre-cut squares, but I got one of the more customizable ones for my larger spaceships.

I've always had problems with my larger miniatures breaking off their bases, so I make sure the bases are removable so they can be safely stored and transported. I am experimenting with magnets, and the nail idea sounds pretty good.

I like the customizable foam trays so you can fit wierd shapes in.

War Store sells EconoBoxes, the foam in a heavy card board box.

Great for storage, and quite durable.

I use magnets for my FASA Star Trek minis and they work well.

I use a magnet on the mini and another on the stand and believe me using 2 magnets is fine because I make sure to get them right.

Also the magnets are very cheap I can get around 100 of them for about $4.00 USD plus shipping which is a GREAT deal.
