I am the trader organiser for Colours and I can confirm that there will be no Colours this year but we hope to return in 2015.

MajorB23 Jan 2014 2:11 p.m. PST

Any explanation as to why?

teper196123 Jan 2014 2:15 p.m. PST

It was a committee decision.

Gaying23 Jan 2014 2:24 p.m. PST

Repeat question – "Any explanation as to why?"

Indeed: as regular show sponsors, i hope there will be a full explanation forthcoming.

If this is true then why was I sent this email?

"A thank you to all who attended Colours 2013 for helping to make it a great show.
Please find attached the form for your organisation if you wish to put on a display or demo game at "Colours" in September 2014.
If you do, please can you complete the form and return it to me ASAP.
If you are not the right contact, then please can you let me know who now is.
Many thanks and hope to see you in September."

I contacted Colin Cockburn and his reply was to ask me to send him a copy of the "cancellation" email which makes me wonder if this is a surprise to him as well.

Not had a reply from Colin as yet…

Dare say it will all come out in the wash..

It sounds really bizarre that Mr Cockburn might be surprised by this as we have been told it was a 'Committee decision' and that 'Colin is the new secretary for the Newbury and Reading Wargames club'.
Strange goings on for sure!

Great pity if true, I really enjoy Colours and have been nearly every year since it moved to Newbury racecourse.

Statement from the committee "Newbury and Reading wargames club have decided to take a break from Colours in 2014 but plan to return in 2015"

Newbury and Reading Wargames Society would like to confirm that Colours 2014 will not be taking place.
This has been a hard decision to take as we all enjoy running the show and making it a success. However over recent years the success at Colours has seen it grow to a size were we as a club have struggled to run the show as smoothly and successfully as we would like. This in conjunction with other issues have forced us to take a real look at what events we as a club can run.
Rather than carry on regardless and risk a real disaster befalling the show, we have taken the hard decision to not have a Colours in 2014.
We will instead use 2014 as a time to review and plan for 2015.
We hope to have your understanding at this time and your support in the future

For the absence of doubt Colours' sister show "A Call to Arms" will be running on 15th February 2014 as planned. We look forward to seeing you there"

dark knights, who did you get that from? I didn't send out any booking forms, I hadn't even updated them from Colours 2013, so I cant have been from me.

David Manley24 Jan 2014 3:06 a.m. PST

Canceling the show on club resourcing issues is a brave step but one that I completely understand, having been in a similar situation with an (albeit much smaller) show some years ago. Fingers crossed they bounce back for 2015
