Hello All, As part of my continuing endeavours in Wargaming the South American Wars of Independence (Simon, Bolivar, British Legion etc.) I have put up information about the Battle of Calibia, fought between the Patriot Army of New Granada (modern Colombia) and the Spanish Army, which had its 200th Anniversary this week (15th January 1814). This is was a very hard fought battle, and ideal for any Napoleonic wargamer to recreate. You can find the blog post on the battle(along with other news about new figure releases) in the link below: link |

Thanks for posting this. Looks like an interesting era for wargaming. I'm impressed that a focus is being placed on it, including a line of figures to go with it, and the availablity of those figures in the U.S. via Age of Glory. After clicking on the link and looking around the site, lots of good material and ideas for research, and I'm wondering if there is a scenario in the works for the battle of Calibia or did I just miss where it was? |

Hello GamesPoet, No I have not put together a scenario for this battle yet. I have put together another scenario for the Battle of Sombrero, and I have another battle scenario nearly ready. Information on the OOB for the Battle of Calibio is still hard to find. There were roughly 2000 men in each army, and it seems little cavalry. We know that the Spanish had 8 artillery pieces, and the patriots had some (but not how many). I will think about putting some wargame scenario together, but some of the organization will be guesswork. The battle took place in front of a large Hacienda which is still standing, so information about the terrain and lie of the land should be easy enough. Keep an eye on the blog for a follow up :-) There will be other battles posted up on the blog by a guest writer Carlos Godoy, who is actually based in Caracas and has access to a lot of original sources. His next post will go up in a week, and then another the week after that concerning battles (such as the First Battle of La Puerta) which came after Bolivar's "Admirable" Campaign of 1813, and was the beginning of the Spanish reconquest of Venezuela. |
