Yup, I've watched several vids and play throughs, it has quite a fan base. It seems that a bit like WoW other Avatars (players) you encounter can work with you or attack you and rob yer stuff.

Looks like fun, I just wish I had time to indulge it. Another few to try off the top of my head;

- State of Decay (similar in ways to DayZ I think)
- Dead rising
- The last of us (looks great, although watching the whole game on YouTube means I don't need to play now…)
- ZombieU

Hope that helps, have fun!

State of Decay is pretty neat. Frustrating at times, because if the character you are playing is killed, well that 's it for him/her. You have to play another character.

It's like that for zombieU too, although it's just how the avatar look that changes but nothing else I think. So if you were a man before and you got killed but then your new avatar is a woman, there's no change to gameplay. You still move at the same rate, hits in combat are the same strength etc. Is state of decay that way too? It's kinda cool in a way as there's no 'going back'.

The thing that's daft about state of Decay is that you don't get 'infected' or anything. So taking hits, bites or whatever from zeds just reduces your health but you can mitigate that by finding food, resting or whatever but you only die once your health reaches 0. I've only watched some play throughs but the characters just dint get bitten then turn. Maybe it's like that in all zombie games, other than 'The Waking Dead' (which is story line based so can ensure that happens)

Oh, and War Monkey, I've tried looking for those rules with no luck, do you know where they might be?

The social aspect of DayZ is the most interesting part for me. The Zombies are really just a bit of a nuisance. It's well worth playing. No leader boards, no team contests just survival with real humans to both help and hurt you. . .

War Monkey & hczmcpheron-
Is this the rule set you are referring to:

Hard DayZ: Survival:

Poor sods, I suppose there's several projects that go the same way, but I can see there's loads of work gone into that project already. It doesn't sound quite like the rules set War Monkey is on about though?!?

hzcmcpheron30 Jan 2014 12:22 a.m. PST

@zoneofcontrol – I was referring to the online multiplayer ARMA 2 MOD called DayZ – dayzmod.com and the new stand alone version that is out in pre-alpha release.

Google Dayz skirmish rules v1.0 pdf and if you can't find it there go to freewargamesrules.co.uk go to misc. scroll down to it and click to it.

I put a set of DayZ rules together a while ago, but it's pretty badly out of date. I have some modifications (generated weapons as opposed to a list), and would add elements of the Epoch mod.

Here it is:
