It's nice to see a table not absolutely covered track to track in tanks. Nice to see a reasonable amount of infantry being used to balance it all too. When we game the WRG rules we play in 1/300 scale, ground scale 1mm = 1m and it works really well. Put down lots of terrain and it looks fantastic. Well done. |

Thank you all for the kind comments. Many questions, about things I probably should have mentioned in the blog..Doh! The ground cloth. All Mark's work, and he is even more of a technophobe than I am so its unlikely he will come on here and tell you all about it. All I know is that its not 'teddy bear fur' as such, but originally started off as a towelling type of material which he has put a lot of time and effort into getting this result. The undulations are made up of successive levels of foam, covered in a thick single layer of felt underlay, about an inch thick, then the cloth. Models. T34s are mainly diecasts from Dragon and MRC, with one lone PSC one (the old version before they retooled and thinned down the gun – I like my guns to be quite thick – puts the willies up the Germans!) The infantry and gun crews are again mainly from PSC – the gun crews are also from the infantry pack, with a little basic conversion, mainly in turning the grenade thrower into a gun captain indicating 'Gun Ready'… Tank riders from AB, now owned by Eureka in Australia and temporarily out of production, but hopefully will be available again one day… The guns themselves are from Skytex, the range has now been handed over to 20mmZone. I don't think these particular models are available – yet? Actually Steve you may recall the 76.2 crash booms were yours and we swapped for some US armoured cars! |

Ahhh… Brings it all back. I played using those rules from 1973 to about 79.
A lot.
Always with micro though. The (much) later edition had the modes mechanism added and I should think you could probably buy a dusty copy of them from some wargame shop. |

Dragon6 Thanks for that pdf link. However I just want to clarify that this is the original, really old, version that Mark turned up with. Pretty outdated now in my view. The version we played with was the June 1988 'Wargames Rules 1925-1950', which I would argue have stood the test of time much better…Unfortunately I don't think these are available to download for free! |

Concur that it does look great. I still like the very old WRG rules; simple yet lots of variety. I found the 1988 rules a bit too cumbersome for me, although they do have excellent unit organisation outlines,and dropped off WW2 gaming.Have now picked up Rapid Fire and started to rebuild some late war US and German forces.I am drawn to the Battlegroup rules… any comparisons with Rapid Fire? worth the big dollars just to have a look see? no doubt very pretty… |

Not made my mind up completely about Battlegroup but they have to be better than Vapid Fire! Its just too easy to kill trained infantry with RF2! Anyone whose spent any time on a live fire range will now how hard it is to hit figure 11 (prone) targets at 300 metres, even with no-one firing back at you… |
