I've recently been working on 15mm Vikings and thought I would share some pictures of the Viking ships I just finished.

Here is a link to my blog post with more pics and some info about how I made them.

Those are excellent, great job!

I'm always inspired by how gamers scratchbuild the equipment needed for games. I've been pondering something similar for 28mm and may just have to take the plunge soon!

Okay, can I get some of these from you? Will pay for the materials, shipping, time, etc.

This has been a dormant project for me going back to elementary school. I actually carved a few out of wood when I was in 5th or 6th grade. I didn't keep them as I was unsatisfied and knowledgeable enough on how to make the shields and proper (but simple) rigging and sail.

I was just going to settle for HO scale for this and buy a plastic model. Your waterline models are the way to go, however, as I envisioned being able to do some sort of naval battles with shipboard fighting.

These look the part and have the right amount of detail for gaming purposes.

Please shoot me a PM :-)

Ancientsgamer –

I've had some additional inquires about selling the hulls and they are easy enough to cast now that I have molds. Let me figure out prices to make it worth my while.

I am probably only going to sell the unfinished hulls. I can provide some ideas of how I finished them so you can do this yourself.

Another thought I had was to possibly sell the masters (with production rights) to some figure manufacturer. Then they could get some figure heads and tails sculpted and provide a more complete kit.

I'll try to figure out how much resin each hull uses and get back to you this evening with an idea of cost.

Peter Pig already sells ship heads and tails

I think the PP ones might be a little small for my ships. His ship looks to have a much smaller post at the front and back. The ship is also scaled smaller than my hulls are.

However, I could be wrong.

Judging by the size of your ships against the 15mm? figures, I think You are probably correct

Yes… 15mm scale.

Scale wise mine are about accurate length wise for larger viking ships in true 15mm scale. I posted a list of actual recovered viking ships with my ships at 15mm for comparison in the blog post. Here it is below.

Largest ship mentioned in the saga's – Busse – est 50 Meters
My Large Model = 37 Meters (15mm scale)
Skuldelev 6 Ship = 36 Meters
My Med Model = 31.5 Meters (15mm Scale)
Skuldelev 2 Ship = 30 Meters
Sutton Hoo Ship = 27 Meters
My Small Model = 26.5 Meters (15mm Scale)
Gokstad Ship = 23 Meters
Tune Ship = 22 Meters
Oseberg Ship = 21 Meters
My unfinished very small Model = 21 Meters (15mm Scale)
Skuldelev 5 Ship = 17 Meters
Skuldelev 1 Ship = 16 Meters (Knarr)
Skuldelev 3 Ship = 14 Meters (Knarr)

Peter Pigs model is 6 inches long which would come in at 20 meters in 15mm scale. He also sculpted the bones of the ship smaller than I did so the figure heads and tails are smaller to match.

Mine are also slightly oversized width wise to accomodate the wrg scale bases.
