Hello everyone. You have all been so kind in answering some of my questions as I get back into 28mm ACW.

I was looking over the great selection of GMB flags for my Union WIP. I was hoping to find some state regimental flags that would be representative of some units that were present for many encounters. I don't have the time to conduct a lot of research. I am going to be gaming with my sons and most of the time we will simply be playing quick pick up games. So, actual division/brigade history and accuracy is less important.

For example, I am going to get the flag for the 20th Maine. Love the history and story at Gettysburg. Beyond that, I am wide open.

So, any suggestions? Any regiments from Indiana, Michigan or New York you can recommend? Staying away from Iron Brigade for the moment…and staying away from zouaves for the moment…

Thank you for your help…

You might look at some obats online. Here's 2nd Bull Run. There's a brigade with the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th Michigan, but I don't really know much about their histories.

I'd say use for Indiana the 27th, for Mich. go for 4th Mich. and for NY go with: 40th, 51st, 61st, 70-74, 124th as all the above have a very rich history.

Thank you Don. Your blog site has been a great help to me painting my union Sash & Sabers! Hope to be getting mine up on a blog soon…

ccmatty,

Thanks for the kind words.

Keep plugging away at them. A few models painted a week adds up over time. If you can sit down and paint one hour per day that is huge! You'll get the colors and technique down that suits you and they start to go faster and faster when you don't have to think any more. I also think it helps to set a goal in your head when each regiment is supposed to be done.

Read about the regiment which you pick on the side and it seems to make the journey more special. You are no longer painting models but members of that regiment which you are reading about! It is what drove me to paint up my first batch of 280 Union soldiers after reading the regimental history of the 141st PA. I lined the regiment up at and photographed them as they would have been on July 2nd, 1863… one to one! You can see the results on my blog.

Have fun.

Don
