I am proud to show you 15mm Swedish S-Tank or The Stridsvagn 103, that I finished at the beginning of December, but because of Christmas and New Year I found time to post it only now :)

There should be a cupola MG, but I haven't unified this element yet. There are be 15 parts (actually its 14 unique parts, because two headlights are identical, so there should be be 14 parts on mold and 15 parts in a pack (I need to unify Machine Gun))

Sweet!

Who is going to produce this? QRF?

I gotta save up, my 'Coldest War' Swedes need a full company of 14!

BlackWidowPilot Fezian10 Jan 2014 6:44 p.m. PST

The tracks are separate?!! The TRACKS are SEPARATE!! MWAAAHAAHAHAHAAAAA!!!! evil grin

Looks great!

I will need a few of those.

Any chance you'll be producing their Swedish APC as well?

Of course, I can see BWP is wanting to convert it into a hover, or grav tank, as well. Can't blame him.

Now, to find some proper, 15mm Swedish infantry for the Cold War.

I hope so ;) I emailed Geoff early this week, and still waiting for reply.

And thanx to BlackWidowPilot and Mako11 for good replies.

By the way I decided to add some more minor details to tracks. Will share photo soon (with added MG). I am also thinking about adding optional side armor for track to be able to make late version of a tank.

SirFjodin10 Jan 2014 7:39 p.m. PST

I mean this things at the side of tracks. By the way you may notice optional dozer blade on my 3d model. Also flotation device and rear storage boxes are also optional.

Great work Nic!

Graycat10 Jan 2014 8:30 p.m. PST

Nice! May I ask what modeling program you are using?

Chatticus Finch10 Jan 2014 9:33 p.m. PST

The tracks and cannon are seperate… Oooooh, I am seeing some BRILLIANT potential for an energy cannon armed variant here!

jpattern210 Jan 2014 9:48 p.m. PST

Yes! Beautiful! I'll be ordering a half-dozen or so.

And like Chatticus, I'll be converting some of mine to a more sci-fi look, so the separate cannon is a definite plus. Maybe a hover or grav version, too . . .

haywire10 Jan 2014 10:28 p.m. PST

Am I weird for thinking it would look like a nice sci-fi apc when driving backwards?

BlackWidowPilot Fezian10 Jan 2014 10:38 p.m. PST

Grav. With fixed rocket pods on the sides…. and a nasty AAA weapon system while I'm at it… evil grin

Yes, we will be printing and producing this, along with the Pbv302. In an unofficial collaboration, Armies Army are working on Swedish Infantry.

We are hoping to reduce the number of parts when we put it into mould. They are necessary for the best printing quality, but we should be able to part-assemble it before moulding and casting. The tracks will still be separate…

Excellent news.

Hopefully, someone will make a M41DK tank for the Danes, and some East German troops too.

GeoffQRF11 Jan 2014 12:26 a.m. PST

And I'm told the Kanone is now in mould…

GeoffQRF11 Jan 2014 3:41 a.m. PST

…and just researching the Bv206 versions

Insomniac11 Jan 2014 7:17 a.m. PST

Wonderful work :)

I never realised that the S-tank used a form of 'jerry-can' armour for their tracks. What a tremandous idea.

GhostofRebecaBlack11 Jan 2014 10:40 a.m. PST

The Strv 103 C used plastic jerrycans to carry fuel and as a little extra protection from explosives and shrapnel.

The 15mm model above is probably the B-model based on the model of equipmentboxes on the back (although they were sometimes used on the C-model as well). As you can see in the picture of the real thing the C-model also had a anti-HEAT fence. Apparenty it was very effective and remained classified until 1992. The model is also a correct B-model because it lacks gun tube protection. The plow was not mounted on every B-model while it became standard on the C-model.

The models tracks are the Diehl-design that was introduced on the B-model during the 70's. The B-model served from the early 70's and the C-model came into service 1986/87.

This model would represent a Strv 103 B serving between the late 70's and mid 80's.

Cool design!

SirFjodin11 Jan 2014 3:23 p.m. PST

Yes it was B model. But I think to make some elements to convert it into C model.

Gennorm11 Jan 2014 3:29 p.m. PST

And I'm told the Kanone is now in mould

Excellent, just what I need to complete my Bundeswehr.

GeoffQRF12 Jan 2014 3:07 a.m. PST

That's just the 3D cad image so far. Look for his posts on the Cunningham to see the printed item. We then have to clean, mould and cast it.

SirFjodin12 Jan 2014 6:10 a.m. PST

As Geoff said this is just 3D model. In needs to be printed, cleaned, casted.

MaahisKuningas9012 Jan 2014 4:01 p.m. PST

Looking forward for these, but especially the Bv206 woked up my interest.

GhostofRebecaBlack13 Jan 2014 12:46 a.m. PST

"Yes it was B model. But I think to make some elements to convert it into C model."

Cool! I really like that the plow is a separate part for easy convertion to a C-model. The jerrycans and flotation screen (the tubes on the sides) were not always mounted on either B or C tanks.

One or two tanks per company had the plow during the B-model era. Of course I just mentioning the operational facts. It's a gaming piece (and will probably be a very good one at that) and not a scale model.

freecloud13 Jan 2014 3:09 a.m. PST

Needs a hovertank option as well as tracks, oh yes it does :)

mwnciboo14 Jan 2014 4:02 a.m. PST

I've just put this on my Blog…What timescales are we looking at Geoff, before production ? April?

GeoffQRF14 Jan 2014 4:03 a.m. PST

Hopefully earlier, but yes, could be April

SirFjodin20 Jan 2014 4:54 p.m. PST

Geoff, please reply to my email ;)

GeoffQRF21 Jan 2014 5:42 a.m. PST

For some reason my emails are not going through to you…

MiniatureUnited721 Jan 2014 4:41 p.m. PST

Can this be scaled to 20 mm?

Fatman21 Jan 2014 9:03 p.m. PST

OK I have no need for one of these, I don't do 15mm moderns and don't intend too. So why am I thinking I WAAAAAAAAAAAANT one!!?

So, dumb question…

I want to make a 15mm vehicle that hasn't been done yet. How would I go about doing so? Where do you start? What tips or tricks are there?

Is 3D printing a viable option?

SirFjodin22 Jan 2014 2:57 a.m. PST

2 GeoffQRF

Thats really strange :) Could you please try this email:

because I haven't received any email from you, maybe due to some kind of mailbox bug…

I want to make a 15mm vehicle that hasn't been done yet. How would I go about doing so? Where do you start? What tips or tricks are there? Is 3D printing a viable option?

Maybe, is probably the most honest answer. Some of it depends on your own fiscal viability. 3D printing requires a good 3D file (many of the files freely available online are ok for online games, etc, but not 'watertight' for printing.

You then need to consider the quality of print. The higher the quality, the more expensive the print, so you could have the above printed relatively cheaply (but still more than we will cast and sell it for, so print on demand is not really viable yet) but the detail and surface quality is likely to be poor.

In contrast, the high quality machine we used to print the Cunningham means that the print alone was about £200.00 GBP-250. So you either need to be prepared to pay £250.00 GBP for a model, or (at roughly £5.50 GBP retail each) a [very] long sales period to recover your cost…

hellfish22 Jan 2014 9:17 a.m. PST

Interesting, Geoff. Thanks.

SirFjodin23 Jan 2014 5:42 p.m. PST

Added optional water tanks!

tyrela09 Apr 2014 4:23 p.m. PST

Any update on this? I really want some :)

Mako1109 Apr 2014 6:18 p.m. PST

I do as well.

Would love to see the tanks as an option that can be put on, or removed, with minimagnets, as desired.

MaahisKuningas9024 Jun 2014 10:30 a.m. PST

So..any updates concerning this? :D Eagerly looking forward to get one of these, and Bv206 especially!

GeoffQRF24 Jun 2014 3:18 p.m. PST

Waiting to get it back from the printer

grommet3724 Jun 2014 10:06 p.m. PST

This is very nice.

Another tank on a very long list…

Lion in the Stars25 Jun 2014 2:22 p.m. PST

Hey, Geoff? any progress on the Pbv 302s and/or infantry?

GeoffQRF25 Jun 2014 2:48 p.m. PST

Kinda waiting to see how the S Tank pans out first. Apparently I may have photos tomorroe.

Keith (AA) was doing infantry

Krieger27 Jun 2014 3:04 a.m. PST

Looking forward to it seeing it.
Shame that the 302 will have to wait, would have liked to field a true tank company from the get go if Im to wargame it, but I understand that cold war swedes might be a bit of a risk for you as well.
Will try to help with sales in Sweden, a couple of museums might be interested etc.

Now Im hoping for infantry and perhaps ikv 91s/ bv 206es.

Armiesarmy27 Jun 2014 3:38 a.m. PST

Sadly, Ive had a sculpting/molding (disaster) which will take time to rebuild, more importanty fund….
It may turn out I do a kickstarter to help

Keith

MaahisKuningas9027 Jun 2014 6:58 a.m. PST

Sad to hear that! :/

If you end up doing kickstarter, you can count on having at least one preorderer/financier.

Armiesarmy27 Jun 2014 8:09 a.m. PST

Thanks :)

Lion in the Stars27 Jun 2014 9:46 a.m. PST

Make that two, if I could ever get a [expletives deleted] job again…
