I heard this one tonight, at the end of the comedy film "Blast From The Past". It was written shortly before 1972 by Randy Newman: Political Science - No one likes us-I don't know why We may not be perfect, but heaven knows we try But all around, even our old friends put us down Let's drop the big one and see what happens We give them money-but are they grateful? No, they're spiteful and they're hateful They don't respect us-so let's surprise them We'll drop the big one and pulverize them Asia's crowded and Europe's too old Africa is far too hot And Canada's too cold And South America stole our name Let's drop the big one There'll be no one left to blame us We'll save Australia Don't wanna hurt no kangaroo We'll build an All American amusement park there They got surfin', too Boom goes London and boom Paree More room for you and more room for me And every city the whole world round Will just be another American town Oh, how peaceful it will be We'll set everybody free You'll wear a Japanese kimono And there'll be Italian shoes for me They all hate us anyhow So let's drop the big one now Let's drop the big one now YouTube link ---------------- Is that crazy Cold War stuff or what!!! Know of any others like that? Dan |

Merry Minuet by Sheldon Harnick, in 1958 They're rioting in Africa They're starving in Spain There's hurricanes in Florida and Texas needs rain The whole world is festering with unhappy souls The French hate the Germans The Germans hate the Poles Italians hate Yugoslavs South Africans hate the Dutch And I don't like anybody very much But we can be tranquil and thankful And proud for man's been endowed With a mushroom shaped cloud And we know for certain that Some lovely day someone will set the spark off And we will all be blown away They're rioting in Africa There's strife in Iran What nature doesn't do to us will be done by our fellow man YouTube link |

I kind of associate the period with '99 Red Ballons' by Nena: Have you some time for me, then I'll sing a song for you about 99 balloons on their way to the horizon. If you're perhaps thinking about me right now then I'll sing a song for you about 99 balloons and that such a thing comes from such a thing. 99 balloons on their way to the horizon People think they're UFO's from space so a general sent up a fighter squadron after them Sound the alarm if it's so but there on the horizon were only 99 balloons. 99 fighter jets Each one's a great warrior Thought they were Captain Kirk then came a lot of fireworks the neighbors didn't understand anything and felt like they were being provoked so they shot at the horizon at 99 balloons. 99 war ministers matches and gasoline canisters They thought they were clever people already smelled a nice bounty Called for war and wanted power. Man, who would've thought that things would someday go so far because of 99 balloons. 99 years of war left no room for victors. There are no more war ministers nor any jet fighters. Today I'm making my rounds see the world lying in ruins. I found a balloon, think of you and let it fly (away). |

Back in the day, when the Iranians were holding our embassy staff hostage and Chrysler was going down the tubes, I had the idea to drop Chryslers on Tehran from B-52's at 35,000 feet. Kill two birds. |

This is a non-nuclear war Cold War song released in 1962 about the Berlin Wall called "West of the Wall" by Toni Fisher. There was a great film clip made for the song using real archive footage of the checkpoints, wall construction and people trying to jump over it
with varying degrees of success (and failure) but the YouTube Polizei have taken it down. However, here's a fan made video to go along with the original song: YouTube link |

@VCarter – I think the folks in the Communisat bloc probably had far fewer opportunities to publish anti-war or war-satire music, as it might have been seen as an attack against the state. But I am pretty sure there are examples of such music out there from Communist bloc nations – its just going to be hard to find! |

Fight for peace was a part of official state ideology, so I was growing on songs like this: YouTube link bcs, you see, our army was the only safeguard against you evil capitalist warmongers ;) A lot of antiwar songs were connected with WWII, like this: YouTube link YouTube link later on we had some rockers singing antiwar songs, but it was already after cold war
YouTube link in this clip you even see some of the soldiers we've played years ago
And I was shocked the first time I heard this Sting song somewhere in 1987 I guess
